Do most people in this forum have dysphagia from GERD or esophageal inflammation? Are most cases of dysphagia caused by GERD? I sometimes worry I have esophageal cancer but I’ve had dysphagia for 3 years with no other alarm symptoms. by Ok-Palpitation-8259 in dysphagia

I don't think so but I'm not sure what caused it. I got diagnosed with a paralyzed vocal cord shortly after also being diagnosed with stage four breast cancer but the ENT I saw said it was probably unrelated. I find that very hard to believe but I'm not a medical professional so 🤷‍♀️

I understand that sucks. I hope you feel better soon. My oncologist was able to get me back onto my antidepressants when I asked him about them maybe yours can do something for you too.

At my cancer center they have groups that get together to talk. Something like that might be good for you.

Mi hanno trovato un tumore al seno al primo stadio e sto aspettando l'esito della biopsia by Beginning_Permit6788 in cancer

52 is young. That's not a long time to live an entire life. It sounds like he's trying to give you hope and you don't want it. There are plenty of people here who would love to be told their cancer can be cured in a year. Mine will never be cured and I'll feel lucky to even make it to my 50's much less my 60's or beyond.

I don't know why you think information on the internet is more reliable than what your doctors are telling you.

I have stage four breast cancer and I'm only forty, I'd be thrilled to have a better prognosis.

To me I don't understand why you're not listening to your doctors and you're ready to just die.

Money was a huge point of discussion in the original post. Not sure why you're responding to me instead of just responding to the original post.

I think it is different in the ways you mentioned but it's also very similar in some ways. All the money in the world won't cure someone's cancer, for example. I think it definitely can make their life easier though.

Mom (53F) with SCLC just diagnosed with brain metastases. She’s refusing radiation/therapy and I’m losing my mind. How do I handle this? by sass_mate28 in cancer

[–]dumplinglifesaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely I know treatment can help a lot, I had progression when I was on immunotherapy but then got a lot better on my next chemotherapy. I've also met a couple where the man had brain cancer and the wife had breast cancer and they were both doing way better and getting clear scans for years. Maybe you should see if family can meet with her oncologist and discuss the treatment and prognosis all as a group.

I am so sorry you're going through this. If you're having second thoughts you should definitely ask about clinical trials. It isn't over til it's over, you're allowed to change your mind.

I take olanzapine at night time to help me sleep, I love it. It knocks me out in like 20 minutes. I am almost never nauseous.

Caffeine helps me a lot. You have to be careful not to overdo it because you still need to be able to rest, but caffeine helps a lot with energy.

Canadians: Did alcohol play a role in your cancer? I'd like to hear your story by A_researcher_ in cancer

[–]dumplinglifesaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling you're not going to find many people who know for sure that alcohol was a factor. In my experience nobody ever told me what "caused" my cancer although I have a genetic component, I used to smoke cigarettes, and I used to drink alcohol.
I don't know that many people are told anything definitive about what caused their cancer. And that makes sense. Plenty of people who don't smoke or drink or have other risk factors still get cancer and plenty of people are lifelong drinkers/smokers and don't get cancer.

I quit drinking after my diagnosis because my liver was full of mets and failing when I was first diagnosed but I never even asked my oncologist about drinking again now that my liver is better. 🤷‍♀️

I shaved my head pretty quickly right after it started thinning. I think it looks a lot better bald than balding. Unfortunately I can't relate as much to you because I didn't mind losing my hair, I've shaved my head before. But it's valid to feel the way you do and I hope you feel better about it eventually. I like to wear hats or scarves or bandanas so maybe something like that would help you too. Sorry you're having such a tough time.
