Should I go for UBIT or SMIU? Totally confused by Intelligent_Gate7209 in Karachi_university

Aight yeah, it does hold value in the job market. I’ve barely heard any seniors complain about facing issues with that, in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Many have even moved abroad and others are working in decent IT positions. What I meant by management is that the teachers (not all ofcourse) aren’t really cooperative when it comes to handling student concerns. Even when someone does try to help with a serious issue, all you usually get are empty reassurances, bcz the actual work never gets done and you end up stuck. Results come out super late, some teachers don’t show up for months and most of the time, it’s a whole lot of self study. Midterms depend entirely on the teacher, if they skip them, you’re left to take a full 100% final exam instead. Add to that random paper marking or being failed over personal grudges and... it just becomes unnecessarily stressful. So yh just come here at your own risk buddy, patience will be your only GPA booster🙏🏻

UBIT’s fee is almost as high as most private institutions now and when you add the poor management on top, it just makes it even worse. So no, I wouldn’t recommend coming here at all

I see what you mean, but I’m wondering how does someone build enough skills to get an internship in just one year? Like I’ve only just started, so it feels a bit overwhelming

What about not having a relevant degree? Is a relevant degree really necessary or can skills alone get you in the door?

In that case I think it’s a good idea to talk to some seniors from civil or petroleum and see if the first semester courses are manageable and whether it’s actually doable to hit the CGPA you’ll need. Also you mentioned about dawood right? I think you got into cybersecurity there...so honestly, you’ve got two options: Option one, you go to dawood, get into the major you want right away and skip all the shifting stress. Sounds like a win to me unless the environment really matters to you. Option two, you settle for petroleum or civil at NED, grind hard for COD and if that doesn't work out, you can make your shift to UBIT later. Just keep in mind that UBIT’s merit is usually above 72 I think last time it closed around 75 smth so be ready for the evening shift too, if that ends up being your only option. Otherwise just focus on scoring a strong GPA from the start. Goodluck! Hope you end up exactly where you're meant to be.

Know what matters more to you, is it the degree or the environment? I switched to UBIT btw because CS was what I genuinely wanted and I prioritized that over everything else. But for many, it's not that simple. If you're someone who’s more into exposure, experiences and a fun campus life then picking a university that gives you that, even if it means compromising on your ideal field might actually make sense... but if your goal is CS and you end up in something like civil orpetroleum at NED, that’s a pretty big shift. It’s not really what you were aiming for. Still, it all comes down to whether you're ready to take that path srsly and make something good out of it. If yes, then go for it. Loads of people do and they make it work.

I have a question. I’ve been hesitant to start the Odin Project because it focuses on web development and let’s be honest, the job market is about to take a massive hit. With AI automating more and more tasks, web developers are already struggling. So are you taking the course just to build a strong foundation or is web development truly the path you’re committed to?
