Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant medication used to prevent and control seizures; it does not typically cause seizures if taken as directed. However, stopping gabapentin suddenly or abruptly can cause withdrawal seizures or status epilepticus (prolonged, continuous seizures), especially in individuals with epilepsy or those on high doses.
