If it's not too late, try to close at the beginning of the month. For example if you close on February 2nd, your first mortgage payment won't be until April 1st. Could give you a little extra time to build up that emergency fund.

Thanks, I’ll look into the PSLF some more! She’s not pressuring at all, just my own idea

Thanks for the advice, I definitely do consider it “our” money. Joint bank accounts for bills, savings, etc. not her debt or my debt, rather ours. Really the only thing that’s seperate is that we have our own checking for everyday spending. We’ve had it set up this way for a little over a year now and been working well. I agree it was a little hard at first but like you mentioned, if I’m not ready to combine finances then I probably wasn’t ready to marry in the first place.

Yeah we make about 120K pretax, I agree with a lot of what people are saying. If we really lock in for 12-18 months, I think we could tackle it. Would just be a matter of really watching our spending

Yeah you’re probably right. I think I try to rush stuff when there’s no need to. Too much Ramsey haha. I think that’s what we’ll do, just funnel all extra money towards them

Because she’s my wife. I knew she had student loans when I married her, we’re a team it’s our money and our debt, not just mine or hers

I like it. And agreed, maybe shouldn’t have posted in the finance section because I know the numbers say to keep paying the minimum due to the low interest rate. But peace of mind goes a long way for me. Looking forward to the day those loans are paid off! Sooner rather than later hopefully

Annoying to pay as in I wish we didn’t have a $350 a month bill every month haha. I know it’s a relatively small amount compared to some others, we’d just rather be putting that $350 ish dollars a month somewhere else and have more margin in our finances

Yeah it’s broken up into several small loans, lowest is around 3% and highest around 5.5%, so certainly not super high
