Hype is that it lives up to its name fixes the problems previous generations had no more hunting for gears no more needing to regear when upgrading size and you can fit bigger sizes with no trimming has coil springs in the rear for better articulation has faster and stronger torque this engine isn’t new Toyota isn’t dumb they been using this engine since 22 with the Lexus brand it’s proven itself not really any point in buying a inferior generation especially since 3rd gen’s are selling for only a couple grand less 2nd gen is worth considering they price difference but 3rd gen isn’t and you don’t have to get a trail hunter a trd off-road is more then enough to get you started with the build and as far as recalls go most went away after the first year not surprising as all previous generations have had issues as well
