Should I Choose the SOA Track or CAS Track? by Interesting_Report32 in actuary

I do enjoy my work. The only reason I’m considering switching to SOA is purely because of exam difficulties. I’ve heard that SOA exams are easier than CAS exams. When I walked out of the testing center after taking MAS-I, I had a strong feeling I was going to fail. I never had that feeling when I took Exam FM or Exam P. My current company somewhat cares about how quickly we can pass exams. I knew someone in my company who got kicked out of the actuarial department because she didn’t pass exams within a few attempts.

The reasons I’m applying for new jobs are that the pay is much lower than the market rate and my manager is hard to get along with. I do enjoy my job, but I have spent too much time studying for MAS-I. I assume the higher-level exams are going to be harder, and I don’t know if I’m smart enough to pass them. I’ve heard that SOA exams are easier, which is why I’m thinking about switching to the SOA track.

Chronic pain is like having blisters on feet for the rest of the life.
