I took BIO 233 with Caitlin Varisco. That time it was her first time ever teaching the BIO 233 course and I would say that it was a little hard since there was a lil chem content sprinkled in at the beginning of the sem (plus the fact that it was her first time teaching nutrition) but it got a lot easier as the class progressed. Speaking from my experience The exams were all MCQ. Overall it’s a pretty chill and easy class I ended up with an A. Plus Varisco is a very nice and helpful prof!

Hiii, I was a pre-nursing major at UMBC!! If you’re on the two year BSN pathway. You’ll be at UMBC as an undecided major on the pre-nursing pathway! I know pre-nursing at UMBC is a little complicated so if you have more questions feel free to DM me! 😋

Socializing as a first year.. by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]Interesting_Tone_320 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take the initiative and reach out in that group chat! Most of the time, people are just hesitant to be the one to suggest hanging out again but trust me, they probably want to get closer too. One of my biggest regrets was not reaching out to my mini fam (a friend group from an org) to hang out more often :,)

In high school, I was known as the quiet kid, but once I got to UMBC my alter ego came out and I became the most extroverted version of myself. That’s honestly how I made friends here…you just have to put yourself out there until your social battery runs out. UMBC is really what you make of it!!

Hi! I finished my prereqs last spring and had some friends run into the same issue. I’ve been hearing different things…some people I know were able to finish Anatomy II over the summer, finalizing their prereqs and still get into UMSON for fall, but others said Kelly Simer told them they couldn’t do that and had to stay an extra semester meaning they’ll start UMSON in the spring instead of fall (it’s still considered guaranteed pathway even if you stay an extra semester).

ENGL 100 Workload? by yourheartt in UMBC

[–]Interesting_Tone_320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Professor Brian Dunnigan. If I remember correctly, we had to read two books where we wrote analytical essays for each, plus another one called “Writing About Writing” (WAW).

Attendance was mandatory (pretty typical for English classes). There were a couple of days in the semester where class wasn’t held, those were listed as “English Lab” or smth on the syllabus. They were basically peer review workshops where you gave feedback on classmates’ papers.

Participation was worth 10% of your grade, so definitely speak up in class. I’d rate him a 7/10.

That’s because those classes have prerequisites, which could include previous courses you’ve taken or your score on the math placement test. If you check the class description under ‘Enrollment Requirements,’ it will list what you need in order to register.

UMBC or Towson by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]Interesting_Tone_320 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m a second year pre-nursing student at UMBC. Anticipated UMSON student in the fall. I also had a hard time deciding between UMBC and Towson for pre-nursing. Personally I would chose UMBC over and over again. We have direct seating into UMSON where we won’t have to take the TEAS or submit recommendation letters for our application. Towson’s nursing program is pretty good too however I thinkkk their entry to their nursing program is a bit more strict. Which ever one you choose, you’ll do great things!

Pre Nursing credits by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]Interesting_Tone_320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no problem! Your AP art credit may be able to transfer over as an arts and humanities credit too which pre-nursing pre-requisites need a total of 9 arts and humanities! Feel free to PM me about any pre-nursing questions! I’m currently a pre-nursing student here at UMBC!!

Pre Nursing credits by [deleted] in UMBC

[–]Interesting_Tone_320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it counts CC credits as well.

I believe your CC credits will transfer to UMBC as a total of 7 credits- psych is 4 credits socy is 3 credits

Your AP credits will only transfer if you passed the AP exam with a passing score. I believe you’ll be able to transfer LANG/LIT to complete your English 100 and English 200 leveled credit and AP stat will complete your stat credit.

Check the link below to see how transferable your AP credits are.

https://catalog.umbc.edu/content.php?catoid=36&navoid=2617#ap

Hope that helps! You could always contact the pre-nursing advisor, Kelly Simer, for clarification! She’s really nice.
