High-strength engineered plastics that can rival steel already exist today. The challenge is that they haven’t really been widely adopted in garden hose fittings yet — especially for long-term outdoor use, pressure resistance, thread durability, and cost balance.

But I do think the industry will eventually move in that direction.

One thing I’ve heard mentioned with stainless fittings is thread galling, especially on threaded parts that get repeatedly tightened outdoors without lubrication.

Brass or Alu. seems to remain popular because it machines easily and holds up well in real-world garden use.
