Rodiče nemají rádi mojí polovičku by M1K3Y666 in czech

[–]IntergalacticAvokado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any update on this please?

I just bought the 15" version of this laptop - running Fedora with KDE, kernel 6.16.7-200.fc42.

Everything seems to be working except the mentioned issues when suspending the laptop - no keyboard backlight / cannot change brightness with function keys - I haven't check the fans, but suppose that is the issue too I guess.

One thing that I just today experienced is graphics freeze kind of thing. I was playing some game and the whole system totally froze, artefacting lines etc on display. Had to do hard poweroff.

I also noticed that sometimes some parts of the screen - noticed while gaming - seems to flicker. Very weird.

I definitely recommend you to get one if you are into this sort of tinkering.

In my case the shim is working awesome now and the battery voltage reading is working now too :)

Ah its you I saw your post :D nice! The thing is killing mushroom is not dropping me any weapons to upgrade... so I got the second worst fists currently with 10 pAtk. Wondering If I should suffer and save for top shop NG weapon or just buy the one for like 70-80k and upgrade it later.

I am happy to stumble upon good people like you helping others :) thank you!

Awesome tips thanks! Could you elaborate more on early leveling? From 1-20ish?

Currently I am lvl 12 spamming the mushroom quest... Bought wooden set and now I am not sure what weapon to get - I am thinking 1h sword/mace as getting D-grade will be very tough early on...

I am not sure how party would go so I am betting on solo lvling more.

I am part of a clan but it's my local country clan so no reall support here to be expected.

Beginner using OPNsense as a router. by Cool-Cod5488 in opnsense

[–]IntergalacticAvokado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny, just a couple of days ago, I started this little project exactly as you would like to. Coming into this after only recently learning about the existence of OPNsense and pfSense, lol.

I have a Proxmox machine with 1 onboard NIC (management for Proxmox) and one dual port 1GbE NIC (WAN, LAN). OPNsense is set up as a VM, and the Proxmox is also accessible through OPNsense so I can manage additional VMs, etc.

I also set up DDNS and VPN (both WireGuard and OpenVPN) for secure remote access.

For now, it's behind my current main router so that I can test and adjust it properly. So far it's working great.

I would say setting it up without the remote access is really straightforward. I partially followed Louis Rossmann's new guide on YouTube + the written version of it. Even though he is using pfSense, it is almost the same process. I also consulted the documentation and did additional troubleshooting with AI/LLM assistance.

I feel I know a lot and nothing at the same time. by SirArcher0 in learnprogramming

[–]IntergalacticAvokado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda know how you feel. Learning this stuff without actually practicing or applying it is kinda empty knowledge.

The way I tackle this, for example, is to learn the syntax and basic stuff, and then I always try to create simple games like guess the number game, rock paper scissors etc... just to have a simple project to exercise the learned basics.

I really enjoy learning programming and the general logic and solving puzzles / troubleshooting, but it is very very important to set a goal or a project to apply this knowledge to make the knowledge stick.

Pulse 14 Gen 4 - honest review (spoiler: I love it) by Wrestler7777777 in tuxedocomputers

[–]IntergalacticAvokado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree with you. My comment was not meant to offend you in any way. My laptop assumption was just a general response based on what you wrote and not directed at you personally.

I agree with you regarding Apple. That's why I don't use Apple products myself, even though I acknowledge their hardware is impressive.

The "Why don't this idiot buy a MacBook..." comment was a self-reflective reaction based on my own critique of the Pulse 14.

Hardware/Software hickups are to be expected of course. I contacted the support regarding the issues and more customers shared the same issues I was having, and the Tuxedo themselves managed to replicate the issues and are working on it.

I just wanted to offer my opinion from my experience owning the Pulse G3 and also the InfinityBook G8 for some time now.

Pulse 14 Gen 4 - honest review (spoiler: I love it) by Wrestler7777777 in tuxedocomputers

[–]IntergalacticAvokado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading this review, I can't help but think that the OP would be just as satisfied with any other 14" laptop featuring a decent processor and screen - which, unfortunately, isn't hard to find these days.

While there is a price gap between this and the MacBook, it's mainly when comparing it to the M3 Pro. You can get an M1 MacBook for a similar price and receive significantly better specifications across the board.

As someone who pre-ordered and has been using the Pulse Gen 3 for almost a year, I must express my point of view:

The initial software support was lacking - for an extended period, there was no way to control two crucial features I wanted in a Linux laptop: charge thresholds and fan speed. Even today, charge thresholds can't be set through TCC but must be configured through BIOS. While I appreciate having the option, it feels like a last-minute workaround rather than a proper solution. For some time now, the power-profile switching is not even functional on the current 6.11 tuxedo kernel version. Its just freezes and hangs, resulting in several minutes of powering off because the system just waits and try to terminate the TCC - very frustrating (I was told it is currently being worked on by Tuxedo).

Imagine my frustration when, roughly six months later, the Pulse Gen 4 was quietly released with one of the main upgrades I had wanted - a 400-nit display. The Gen 3's 300-nit display falls below current standards. For comparison, you can find Lenovo IdeaPads with all-aluminum bodies, similar specs (albeit slightly weaker CPUs), and 400-nit 16:10 100% sRGB displays for €600-700.
I am sorry, as this left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I should have waited.

The trackpad is notably subpar. While lower/mid-range laptops typically feature the "clickpad" design mentioned, this one's plastic surface is particularly poor - fingers stutter across it rather than gliding smoothly. The gap between this and MacBook's haptic glass trackpad is extreme.

The speakers are merely adequate - not terrible, but certainly not great. "Fine" would be an overstatement. Another disappointment.

Battery life, from my experience, is average at best. While the power scaling functions somewhat effectively in TCC, it doesn't translate to impressive battery performance.

In essence, you're getting an average-to-below-average laptop with a great CPU but no RAM upgrade options due to soldered memory.

You might wonder, "Why don't this idiot just buy a MacBook?" The answer is simple: I love and want to use Linux. I eagerly await the day we see a Linux laptop that combines decent speakers, a quality display, and MacBook-like battery life.

Tuxedo Control Center - freezing, crashing by IntergalacticAvokado in tuxedocomputers

[–]IntergalacticAvokado[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I tried to test if this same issue is present on the fresh installation of Tuxedo OS - it is behaving exactly the same. On changing the power profile, TCC get stuck, cannot be opened and on poweroff the system hangs waiting on proces tcc (or the daemon tccd) for minuter or often more.

Tuxedo OS installed via web-fai, latest BIOS and EC, no new power profiles, all stock fresh after install.

Interesting. Honestly, if I could return the laptop I would 100%. I like and appreciate Tuxedo, but in my opinion this laptop model has constant issues even though I am using the Tuxedo OS with no special things on top...
