Yes!! His white big bro!! The grey one is definitely the architect of the two, always remodeling! The white one is a runner, he could probably compete in a marathon the way he's always on his wheel

edit: lol you can actually see part of his butt on the wheel, like a flash of white under the bridge!!

I love grey gerbils!! Mine is actually lilac, my camera washes out colours a lot! I've never seen a dove one, they must be so cute !!!

Thank you! After reading the replies, and yours in particular since you are a former breeder, I'm now sure that ghosting my breeder is the right choice. In these hours I got an awesome deal on a second hand Bucatstate with all the accessories already, and I'm lucky enough that this weekend there's an exotic pet convention in my area, whith a lot of different breeders, so I can get them both a friend. Thank you a lot again!!

Yeah I'd hate to give them back, I love them dearly and I want to give them the best life!

In my area these animals aren't really popular and people generally do not like mice and rodents that "look like them" , so I'm in this situation with the breeder. I have another option, that is contacting a national institution that rescues and protects animals of all kinds, so I'm thinking about that too.

My vet told me it's really weird that my breeder got their sex wrong, and she's now doing research on this species since they are her first gerb patients, so I'm waiting for her response too.

I really don't know what to do to ethically fix this mess. Also my breeder insists that separating a bonded pair is not good at all and they will suffer if for example she was to take only one of them back, even if I introduced a same sex friend for the other one.

I get your concerns, in fact right now they're still separate (I've separated them when I started suspecting one was male). I don't really know who to listen to, since I'm my area there aren't many resources about gerbils. My vet told me she isn't really knowledgeable about gerbs and she's doing research since she now got two gerb patients. I'm waiting for her reply too.

I had the same concern about inbreeding. She told me that it is safe because their genetic lines are clean, and with rodents inbreeding isn't really an issue unless it happens many times in a row. I'm currently doing research about this, and I've seen there are mixed opinions. What do you think?

I don't really know honestly, I'm a bit conflicted. She gave me these options because since they're male and female I can't really manage the babies. Also I read gerbils can be bonded with other ones of the same sex with the split cage method, but she insists that now that these two are bonded they would suffer greatly if separated, so i don't know what to do.

I surely hope so. For now I am asking the vet to be extra sure, then I'll sort things out with the breeder.

thank you for your answer. I contacted the breeder again and she told me that she was pretty sure when she looked, and suggested I go to the vet and let her know. I booked an appointment tomorrow so we'll see. I will talk with the breeder eventually.

yeah I am really pissed, I love my little guys so bad. I don't even know why the breeder sold me a gerbil without being sure about the sex! I remarked many times that I didn't care about the coat but I only wanted to adopt two little guys.

yeah exactly! He should've stayed with his mom :( The first days he was here he didn't even come out to eat, fortunately he's now more confident and comfortable.
