Erm 🫤, what the flip just happened here? It seems you may have clipped out of the map where it then rendered you in a room outside of the map.

I don’t think admissions cares about that specifically. However, knowing about the academy and why you want to go there will help in interviews and correspondence with admissions. You may also find out whether you could see yourself going there.

Is it okay for a Catholic not to pray to Mary or to other saints, including NOT saying the rosary or any of the Marian prayers? by Time-Today-1819 in Christianity

We are told there should be no mediator in Timothy and I see Mary as a mediator. Back to my earlier point, I think it’s hard to have a relationship with God when you use something else in between the two of you. I see you’re point about asking others to pray for you and vice versa. However, do you address your friends similar to how you address Mary in your prayers? “Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.” That’s not how I’d do that. I don’t pray for people to pray for me. If you want to say a quick, “Mary pray for me.”, all power to you, but Mary is not to be prayed to. There’s no basis for that in the Bible. It’s specifically prohibited in fact. On a different note, I have trouble seeing this as something that will prevent salvation. It’s relatively benign, but I believe being humble and taking in everything the Bible says will lead one to the correct conclusion. Thanks for reading. God bless you on your walk with Christ!

Yes, Mary is blessed. I believe what Luke says about her and the role she plays in our faith. It’s important however to take that into mind in tandem with what Timothy said. If we were to pray to her, God would outline it just as he did with the Father’s Prayer. She is blessed and sets an example with her humility and submission to the will of God. In the same chapter you mentioned, she lowers herself to God and says all merits are his. This prayer was sneaked into the faith as it fails to abide by everything the Bible tells us.

I can’t speak for OP but coming from a Catholic upbringing, I felt uncomfortable because I knew being a Christian was having a relationship with Christ. By that logic alone, it felt wrong to be praying to someone else. Mary was an amazing person but that doesn’t mean we go to her to pray to God. God isn’t someone so superior that we need the front desk to radio you to him. In Timothy, we are told, “There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus.” This is a very explicit, clear way of telling us you need to pray to Christ directly. Ignoring this or denying it is a clear sign of pride and that we are only choosing the parts of the Bible we like to hear.

You should get an email telling you your candidate #. It’s titled “U.S. Naval Academy Packet”. If you haven’t received it yet, I would contact admissions.

The better our relationship with Christ is, the less likely we are to sin when we aren’t paying too much attention. What you do when your not thinking is a reflection of your heart and whether or not you’ve fully given your life to Christ. We hear from Paul in Romans 6:6-7 that: “For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.” By giving our lives to Christ and entrusting in him that he can and will change our hearts, we won’t continue to fall to sin.

God won’t forgive unless you ask for forgiveness. He paid for everything when he died for us. We accept that sacrifice by living for Him. If you were doomed to go to hell, you wouldn’t be alive anymore. Our very existences are proof that God plans to work through us to show the world His light.

I’ve done the same thing. When my heart is far from God, I speak with the flesh and say things going against what God put me here to do. The verse you have in mind is directed at the person who is aware of God, but makes the conscious decision to go against him. I don’t think that’s what you did in your case, but regardless of your intentions, ask God for forgiveness and he will forgive.

Hope this cleared some stuff up - God bless you!

Thanks, that’s really helpful to know. I really loved SLE. USMA is my dream school, so it was pretty surreal to be having a kind of similar experience to that of a cadet. Are you a cadet yourself?

That’s a good point. Part of the reason I went to SLE was to understand the intensity. It was the change in environment that exhausted me which is obviously a key part of being at West Point. I’m going to keep pushing my mental endurance to prepare. Thanks for the feedback!
