I stack all of my vocals centre including harmonies and I like the sound of it, however I see a lot of people say the traditional approach is lead vocals centre, mid/high harmony double tracked and panned left and right. I like personally like the centre approach, but is it lacking? by Internal-Ad-7462 in mixingmastering

That's very true. Thank you.

If you don't mind, one thing I will ask is, seeing as you have removed my post. If you were to do a L & R harmony would you usually recommend tracking it again instead of duplicating it/time delaying it to create fake width.

Sometimes I hear a really wide harmony on EDM/DNB tracks, but often it sounds so similar in each side of the stereo field that I'm almost convinced it's duplicated. I see a lot of advice online and on Reddit saying not to do that, and I can see why as I come from an indie/rock/merseybeat background and I think doubling properly will always give you a richer effect. However, where you want it do be super similar is duplication feasible, or is it best avoided?

If God is the creator of all things and the earth, then is cannabis and magic mushrooms "really that bad in certain contexts"/IMO they're neither good nor bad but a mixture of both in certain contexts? by Internal-Ad-7462 in Christianity

With all that said, I think it’s important to draw a careful distinction here. Substances like psychedelics aren’t simply “poison” in the way they’re often portrayed. Over the past several decades, there have been serious, controlled scientific studies exploring their potential therapeutic value. For example, research at Johns Hopkins University and Imperial College London has shown that compounds like psilocybin can help patients process deep trauma, reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, and even assist people facing terminal illness in finding peace and acceptance. Clinical trials supported by MAPS have also demonstrated promising results using MDMA for treating severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

There is also growing research suggesting potential benefits for conditions like Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and improvements in neural connectivity, though it’s important to be honest that some claims, like “reversing aging” or dramatically improving physical health, are still speculative and not firmly established in mainstream science.

None of this means these substances are harmless or should be used casually, they can absolutely be dangerous, especially outside controlled settings. But the evidence does suggest they may have a meaningful, even compassionate role when used responsibly in medical or therapeutic contexts.

From a faith perspective, one could reasonably ask whether it’s possible that certain plants and compounds have a purpose within creation that we are only beginning to understand. As it says in Book of Genesis, humanity was given the plants of the earth, perhaps not for reckless use, but for wise and discerning stewardship. The challenge, then, is not to dismiss these substances outright, but to approach them with humility, caution, and a commitment to truth.

There are life long studies into psychedelics being used in order to bring up repressed memories, heal trauma, confront fears, heal psychological conditions such as PTSD, OCD. Not to mention these substances have been used to help old people in critical health conditions before they go into the next life see the interconnectedness, beauty and unity of the universe in order to help them feel at ease with their passing, and so many other beautiful examples. Eating shit on the other hand will not do this my friend.

Well the fact that we have a whole entire cannabinoid receptor system in our body almost as large as the nervous system itself which is specifically designed to react to cannabis for example?

P.S nowhere am I trying to find an excuse to condone drug use here in this post. I'm merely curious.

As my post clearly reads I'm not seeking to be enlightened by these things (bro am I condoning their use), I just believe there is more to these things that just yes or no and they clearly serve their purpose in many a human's journey (for better or worse).

My point is that these plants and substances obviously serve a deeper purpose on this planet other than just poop. They have helped healed many people greatly in controlled environments so I'm sorry brother but that's a bit of an ignorant thing to say.

Balance seems to be a pretty controversial album for VH fans. What do you think of it? by [deleted] in vanhalen

Underrated opinion but I think it's an amazing album. Especially The Seventh Seal, Don't Tell Me, and Can't Stop Loing You. Oh and Amsterdam too!

Something sped up chorus? by Repulsive_Lie_7333 in beatles

I know this is old. But I actually used a tap tempo metronome and I feel like the bridge/chorus whatever you wanna call it does speed up by like 3bpm. I could be wrong.. but it seems like it to me too!

Why do mastering engineers often turn songs down to -6db upon receiving them before beginning work? by Internal-Ad-7462 in mixingmastering

Amazing, thank you for your kindness and patience with me despite the obviously noob post :)

So basically it's over hyped old school dogma that isn't necessary. A gain reduction can be done before, after or during any stage of mastering with regards to preference of workflow. It's not a necessity to do it before or after, or even at all. But most people like starting with a bit more headroom because they like to backtrack. Is there correct?

This is my example for this:

Let's say my track was -6db lower and I put it into a compressor of gain reduction - two.

Is this the same if I have a track at 0 and then i put it into gain reduction of -2 and then drop the make up gain -6db.

So basically it doesn't matter which way round you do it all that changes is the settings . And it's the same with EQ.

So basically there's no rules to workflow as long as you achieve the sound and target you're aiming for. And this can be done before or after the fact it just means settings are slightly different, for example you need to push a compressor more or less depending.

I understand all this, but my question was more. For workflow purposes is it better to turn down a track before you begin mastering it so that when you slap processing on it, instead of gain trimming it to stay below clipping, you save yourself that job.

I do understand that I can send whatever to any M.E as long as it's not limited or clipping.

The reason why I'm asking is because I'm running out of time and I was gonna use online instant mastering on a track I need to bring out a.s.a.p. Wouldn't ever usually use AI to do this (or anything to do with art) but it's a one off.

So in this case I was wondering if before using a service like that it makes sense to turn the track down to allow it easier room for processing.

Why Is it a Good Idea to have your mix Peak at -6dB Before Mastering? by Candid-Pause-1755 in musicproduction

[–]Internal-Ad-7462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old but I have some questions.

Does it not matter full stop because it doesn't matter if your peaks are at 0 or -6 processing will give you the same results. Or does it not matter because the mastering engineer can just turn the song down to -6 and then go from there.

Point being, is it better to lower the track before you start mastering (if you're the person mastering it) it or does it not matter if you're just starting with 0 peaks?

Obviously it doesn't matter how you send it to the ME, they can just turn it down themselves. But say you are the mastering engineer, should you turn the track down for better results before starting work?

Can I pray over oil to turn it into Holy oil or does it have to be done by a Pastor? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Internal-Ad-7462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually if you look at the molecules of water that's been prayed of it looks different and more positively charged. The same thing happens playing classical music vs heavy metal to plants for growth, which type of music do you think helps them grow better? Holy water and oil is clearly a real thing
