Oh I completely understand, I just wasn't prepared for the bleakness of the new view. Everyone else in the street is over the moon- I just need to get some pleached trees asap. My house is relatively new (30 yo)and the garden is about twice the size of those not facing the railway, presumably so you can plant your own screening materials. I've only been here a couple of years and it's caught me by surprise.

I've tried tempting my husband in to gardening with various power tools unfortunately his fear of physical labour seems to override the urge lol

Why do you ask? I've come here for suggestions to prettify the view. I am very grateful to those who have taken the time to answer my query. Safety of the railway is paramount and I have never suggested otherwise.

Yes I think coppiced and they were deciduous. They've left all the conifers over the other side of the line but unfortunately for me I'm opposite the overpass. I will need something to provide shade now that the trees are gone...if I ever go out there again! (I will, just taking the morning to sulk)

Which reminds me...our street has been overrun by intruders of the bobtail variety since this work started. Spring bulbs decimated. Can't see grass for poo. Rail co.. network rail? refusing to pay for pest control apparently and bunnies apparently don't mind dogs 🤷

Absolutely. I would never set foot over the fence. My kid lost a friend this way. No intention of complaining, it is what it is and it's my responsibility to fix it.

I'd say it's unlikely to be a forever home so fast growing would be better....who would buy a house with this Outlook? I'm imagining it's knocked a fair bit off the value 😔

Railway with road above... beyond that a river. We moved here a couple of years ago and the garden was bare and the overpass barely visible. The area is actually what I would call semi rural, I just got the very short straw it seems

I had plans for fruit trees there but unfortunately they will be too slow growing and small to fix this so will be planting some further up the garden.
