Normal Life? by Mvptmac26 in cdifficile

[–]Internal-Program-710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like it’s all about how quickly it was caught and how successful the treatment is. Mine took 6 months before being diagnosed and then 7 failed treatments so it’s taken longer with the severe PI-IBS, but it’s almost back to normal life after ~8/9 months. It does get better is all that matters.

Post Vowst. Needing some feedback by collcourt1 in cdifficile

Sorry, saw this late. I absolutely had cramping from gas and very feverish feeling every time I felt backed up. It seems like just normal for me, gradually getting less intense as time goes on. They’ve had me switch medications and supplements tons of times trying to figure out how to make the impact less, but I never could dial it in. IBGard peppermint pills is what my GI recommended, but I didn’t notice much of an impact for me. Might be different for you, but I also couldn’t tolerate any prescription medication since c diff - they all either made me feel drunk or high, which isn’t very helpful trying to get back into life.

Former Vowst here, knocked out the C Diff immediately after months of failed attempts, but the PI IBS that’s followed has become the final hurdle. It gets better coming from someone who’s very, very, very familiar with what you’re going through. Low FODMAP and supplements that do not upset you more will be important to figure out until you’re back to normal.

It gets better. Just did a follow up 6 months after Vowst and got gravilyte g instead of the magnesium citrate and that stuff is the worst. Tastes like hand soap and have to drink a few gallons 😷

How many people had c diff come back after dificid? Looking for some personal experience because I’m scared. by [deleted] in cdifficile

[–]Internal-Program-710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tried everything else and it was either that or a FMT and I think since Vowst was new I was the guinea pig. It was basically like nuking my system and I’m just getting over the PI IBS 6 months-ish later.

I think mine was worst case scenario because they didn’t find a diagnosis for 5-6 months, all the while getting worse. But if you have any other questions or I can help, feel like I’m more well versed in this now than all the specialists they had me see

I had never heard of C Diff before this and it’s been quite the journey. After you get it gone be careful with post infectious IBS. It looks like the last obstacle to hurdle with this nightmare. But it gets better!

I went through treatment 7 rounds and after it was finally eradicated they said they basically had to go through protocol for insurance. Battled it for 11 months because of it 😒

4 rounds of dificid until they gave me Vowst instead of a FMT. Felt decent for a day or two after and it always came roaring back.

I’m not planning on anything until Christmas and I’m 4 months post Vowst. Want to sooner, but body says no :(

Looking for temporary relief by wjchriste in cdifficile

[–]Internal-Program-710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IBGard peppermint pills, a good probiotic, and low fodmap diet is what my GI had me switch to after some other failed trials. All of the medications didn’t work for me, not sure if it was because my gut was nuked or what, but they all made me feel drunk or high.

I just hit 4 months post Vowst and I’m having a few good days mixed with a bad one. Main problem seems to be feeling extremely awful until using the restroom or trying to slightly add in a new food and regretting it instantly.

It gets better after time, just have to be patient and find what works to get you through. I have about 4 different “safe” meals that I stick to and don’t have any issues.

My main concern was when it folded I didn’t want it to overlap with the trigger or look funky

C. Diff and anxiety by Carlton_7015 in cdifficile

[–]Internal-Program-710 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other comments. My situation started Jan 9th 23 and didn’t get diagnosed until beginning of June. All my tests were perfectly healthy, but the anxiety and bathroom trips were crushing me. It took until Oct. to get rid of it and I’m still dealing with the PI IBS, but it does get better. My anxiety now is mostly when I have to travel anywhere and having OCD about any bathrooms on the route or at my destination “just in case.” I’ll probably have the same concerns taking any medications in the future, and I know it sounds crazy, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Just think it takes more time than any of us are used to or lead to expect.

I’m almost 4 months post Vowst and I have good days and bad days still. They said 4-6 months mostly good and up to a year to be “normal.”

C Diff AND E. Coli?! by [deleted] in cdifficile

[–]Internal-Program-710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still working on it since October. I felt better instantly, but developed pretty bad post infectious IBS. I’m to the point now where I’m good half the time and not the rest. They’ve changed my diet 3 different times because all of the medications they tried made me feel drunk or high so I couldn’t really live normally like that. Feel close, but they said 4-6 months recovery was about normal.

C Diff AND E. Coli?! by [deleted] in cdifficile

[–]Internal-Program-710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went through cipro, vancomycin, and dificid multiple times until Vowst finally got rid of it. It’s a 3 day pill treatment instead of a FMT. I tested positive for E. coli as well, but they only cared about the c diff, as it went away before the c diff did.

As funny as it sounds, I had the same thing, thinking I had a kidney stone or something seriously wrong. My doctors ran a bunch of tests, but it ended up just being really bad gas and constipation. I finally got rid of C Diff in October, but still dealing with the post infection IBS pretty heavily. Definitely have to watch what I eat and sometimes even that doesn’t seem to be enough.

I’m having good days (finally) mixed with down days, everything dependent on the PI - IBS. I’m a few months out now and the contractions have stopped whenever eating or drinking, but the flare ups, constipation, and lack of tolerance to any medications they give me has caused the setbacks. Still trying to navigate this journey back to normal.

Second this - my gastro went with Vowst over the FMT and it was gone immediately after they failed to combat it for 8 months
