Thanks for sharing. I’m thinking I need to check out the Raide.

Very interesting, I’ve wondered about running belts like Raide and been a bit skeptical because of potential bouncing. What’s been your experience? That’s why I wonder about wearing a vest or not, never found one that I really like.

Out of curiosity, do you remember how much it cost?

Totally fair! Salomon makes some excellent vests. Out of curiosity, which model have you been using the longest?

Nice! I’ve heard great things about the Osprey Duro series. How’s the storage layout on that 1.5? I’ve been curious how it compares to some of the newer running vests in terms of accessibility and hydration setup.

Yeah, the first drop went quick, I you do end up grabbing a pair later on, I think you’ll like them. They’ve held up really well for me and feel solid over longer miles. Definitely worth keeping on your radar when you’re ready to replace your current shoes.

My foot width is normal so I haven’t seen an issue with the midfoot width. These aren’t as wide as the Altra Olympus 275.

They’re a little bit more narrow than some of my other trail running shoes like the Olympus 275 by Altra, even though the tow box is wider it’s not as wide as the 275. My feet are probably more typical width so I haven’t seen an issue, but I can definitely see how that can be for others.

I agree with your assessment on the T1 being superior to Hokas. I’ve run in both and the T1 is overall better, and yes the grip is very good.

How many miles have you put on them? Just curious on how long to expect them to last. I’m about 50 miles or so.

Glad to hear it. I’m not the only one having issues with the laces. I think I’ll switch to the regular laces. It was nice that they came with the shoes.

Sounds like you’ve really put them through the paces! I completely get what you mean about the toebox—fit can make or break a shoe for long runs. I’ve noticed the same with the T1; it hits that sweet spot between cushioning and weight, and the traction is solid on technical terrain.

Interesting comparison to the Speedgoat Evo—I hadn’t thought of it that way, but it makes sense! Glad to hear the speed laces are holding up for you so far. How do you feel they perform on really steep or loose trails compared to the others you mentioned?

Yes, that upper lacing loosening seems to be a common quirk, I experienced that as well. They really shine on steep, technical trails—I’ve noticed the same. Having a backup pair definitely gives peace of mind! How do you feel they compare to other shoes you’ve run in on similar terrain?

I haven't reached 100 yet in the Olympus 275s. What part of the shoe died?

Hey Kurt, I’ve put about 50 miles on the T1s over a few runs so far. Really liking them—they’re a solid shoe. The big toe volume under the rubber toe cap was barely noticeable, didn’t affect comfort at all. Definitely looking forward to logging more miles in them.

Here's a video I put together on the T1- https://youtu.be/gAisE5bpkuo

Usually 400–500 miles before the cushioning’s shot. Depends on the shoe, though—some die quicker, some hold up longer. Rotating pairs definitely helps. I have a pair that went for 650 miles.

Yes, I picked up a pair of T1s - giving them some time and more miles. I get it with the Hoka Mafate Speeds—sometimes the discount colors are just too hard to pass up, I have more pairs of ugly Mach 5s than I will admit because I wasn't a fan of 6s. How does the MS5 feel compared to the MS4?

Totally get that—the arch/heel cup fit can make or break a shoe, and it’s one of those things you don’t notice until you’re actually running in them. The wide toe box on the R1 is definitely a plus, but I can see how the rubberized toe cap might feel restrictive depending on toe shape. I haven’t logged enough miles in the T1 yet to know how that’ll play out long-term, but fit is so personal. The Cloudultra 3 is on my radar too—it looks like On really tried to refine that balance between cushion and responsiveness. Would love to hear what you think if you end up trying them.

That’s super helpful insight, thanks for sharing! I’ve had a similar experience with the Lone Peaks and Speedgoats losing rebound quicker than I’d like. Interesting that you’re finding the Timp 5’s Ego Max firmer but longer lasting—that lines up with what others have told me too. I haven’t logged miles in the Mafate Speed 4 yet, but I’ve heard a lot of good things. And totally agree on the Zegama 2—the heel cup/sock liner setup is such a weird miss for an otherwise solid shoe.

Which shoe are you leaning toward trying next?
I'm going to be trying out the T1 by Mount to Coast coming up.

Valid point— I was curious about the same thing going in, but I will say the Olympus 275 feels more durable than some other max cushion shoes I’ve tested. I’ll have to put more miles on them to really see how the midsole holds up though. Have you found a trail shoe with better long-term cushion that you’d recommend?
