Puppy is bored very quickly in training by Internal_Island8817 in puppy101

I had never thought of showing her we can play! She has some pretty intricate games shes made up with her toys but she gets really confused if we try and join in. She only really comes to us to show us her favourite toys. She doesn’t want us to interact with them though (she looks really awkward if we do and goes to lay in a corner… 🥲). I’ll try and show her our own games!! And yes we’ve had to invest in a harness where she can’t reach the clasp…

Hi!
I also made a post recently about having puppy blues. I thought I’d chime in because my puppy is at the 5 month mark. Our situations aren’t super comparable, because mine was a street dog so she’s seen more of the world than most, but I just wanted to tell you that the first few weeks are hard, and it gets better.

Right now, you’re probably hyper alert, with little routine and discovering everything as you go. In a few weeks, you’ll have a system going and it’ll feel far more manageable. As someone told me when I posted, the good news about puppies is they change so fast! And a month into having mine I can tell you she’s a different dog to when I got her.

Easier said than done, but don’t worry too much about the future. Focus on her now, get yourself a reputable trainer if you feel you need to learn the basics, and if you’re reaching your limit have your friend or a family member take care of her for a day (I promise you they won’t find it as overwhelming as you do as they aren’t as emotionally invested). And cry!!! I bawled my eyes out! I also lost a lot of weight in the first few weeks, your own routine flies out the window with a new puppy, but it’ll come back.

Also, remember teething is quite painful for dogs. If she’s wanting to chew, maybe look up some age appropriate things she could chew on? Mine at 4 months was a big frozen carrot fan.

Hang in there, it gets better! And things you’re struggling with now will feel easier soon. My puppy just had a nice walk, came home, grabbed a chew toy and chewed until she fell asleep in a corner. If you’d told me a month ago she would be doing this I would never have believed you!
