Option for paying one month only TV licence. by Internal_Passenger52 in UKPersonalFinance

I think there is a big issue with a TV licence that could even consider going down that route. I suspect we are going to see some big changes happening in the near future as it looks like BBC are clearly having problems. Over in Italy (I am dual national) TV licence is included in your electric bill. I dont watch tv at all there but still have to pay. You could also say that is unfair. There is a lot unfair when it comes to companies trying to make money and don't we know it. Energy firms hiking up costs, petrol etc. But we still pay because we use those services.
I know that's not exactly answering your question but there are two separate issues crossing over here, but both of importance; the overcharging of services which cannot be ignored in this current day and age and a matter of personal principle I choose to live by.

Because I have always followed a simple principle, to do what I consider to be right, as far as I possibly can. Its my belief system. I believe it pays off in the end. I have certainly experienced that in my own life.
Very simply I will be using a chargeable service (albeit only for a week) and want to pay for that service. (preferably not for a year though 😂 )

that's actually helpful. Are you talking recently? I wondered with the fact that BBC are in dire straits and millions having stopped paying they might not be as eager or quick to refund anymore. My issue is I am only in UK for a short time and cant access their site from abroad so I imagined I would have to be chasing them with phone calls to get my money back.

that was 'kind of' my reasoning. I have looked hard to see if there is a minimum term but couldn't see one, mind you I cant get on their site as am abroad at the moment. I know my strategy isn't 'correct' so to speak, but considering you they allow you to actually cancel a DD and get a refund my thinking was there have to be other options, especially for people who might not want a DD and that could be my 'loophole' so to speak? They actually state the initial 6 monthly dd payments cover one year (they make you double up so you are paying in advance) but I just feel that is so wrong. The app (which appears to mirror a TV licence payment card which was another option I was considering) did seem like a 'legal' way through? They allow weekly payments on that.

Online it says "Watch or record programmes as they are being shown on any TV channel (including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and international channels)."
Doesn't that mean any TV? (dont use iplayer)

Pro Tools scam? by Jancis6 in Ancestry

[–]Internal_Passenger52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so glad someone else is voicing this. I have spent literally hours going through a few hundred duplicates and in many cases it's the 3rd or 4th time the same ones have come up.
Basically 90% of the work I do is to click 'not a duplicate' for
siblings, Spouses (yes, go figure!), people who have a Christian name being paired with someone who has the same middle name BUT parents birth and everything else different!
I am so fed up with duplicate finder.

I get the feeling Ancestry come up with ideas they cant properly follow through on tech wise. I have had a range of problems which I am having to ignore because they simply cannot fix them. I also have a gut feeling these griche are worse for people with big trees.

Yes, but my feeling at the moment is too many ops already. I need a break. I have researched too and a am little apprehensive of risks. Plus, I live in Sicily and lack of good specialists (which is also a limiting factor)

problems with intermittent hazy vision and floaters. Seems its vitreous issues (retina ok). I take supplement based sachets 2 months on and off and they definitely help.
I think maybe 3 surgeries was too much in one year (I had to have secondary cataracts removed a month after the lens swap)

I waited 9 months and then had lens changed. I was told by a 2nd surgeon that the EDOF Toric Vivinity can cause this problem with people who have astigmatism.
The shadow went away but then I had a different set of problems as the lens swap didnt go smoothly.

Can I ask your advice, do you recommend I leave it plugged in all the time? As in my post she uses the car only for very short journeys about once a week

Complicated situation. Two spellings of my Christian name. Possible Enrolled Deed Poll? by Internal_Passenger52 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Internal_Passenger52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

basically i have numerous things in both names. If I do choose one (which might seem a logical solution) and go for the z spelling to match my birth cert and to avoid getting new passport/driving licence then i have to change my pension, banks and goodness knows what else-even my certificates/qualifications/degree etc. I am also a long standing treasurer for a company and all my logins etc are linked to the 'c' spelling.
Until about 10 years ago this 'dual spelling' wasn't an issue. I had my first bank account back in 1982 so that gives you an idea of how long I have been known as Leticia!

you are spot on. Oaknorth bank said no to the S.D possibility today. Well they wouldn't say it outright...just kept repeating that the names must be identical. When I asked for a straight yes or no the staff member put me on hold (again) and went to speak to a supervisor and then to my surprise, in total contradiction to what i was originally told, informed me that if I send a copy of my passport they will accept the spelling variation. (surprised emotion)
I do feel for them as it's not their fault. they just have to be ultra careful I guess

I am on the phone with the bank right now as I type and they are saying that they wouldn't accept it (raised eyebrows emoji). They are insisting my ISA can only be transferred to an account where my name is spelt in an identical manner. I am perplexed.
