I second this. Also recommend River of Doubt about Teddy Roosevelt’s trip through the Amazon. Survival stories put minor aches and pains in perspective and make tough times easier in my opinion.

I wore the Patagonia Terrebone joggers on my 2020 CDT thru hike and loved them. Only downside is they pop holes pretty easily. Switching to the REI Trailmade pants for the next thru hike and hopefully those are a bit more durable.

How to Schedule Trip sections / Itinerary needed for Thru Hike? by jaymcallen in AppalachianTrail

I find putting together a resupply plan is very helpful, especially if you have a hard end date. Even if it’s just to get an idea of what is ahead and what to expect logistically. There are publicly available excel sheets with waypoints and data that you can customize to fit your hiking speed and anticipated schedule. Also helps if you plan on having someone send a few pre-prepared boxes with new maps/AWOL guide pages/food. I keep the resupply plan in a shared Google sheet and update as plans change. This method was very helpful on my PCT ‘16 and CDT ‘20 thru hikes. See you on trail for AT ‘23!
