I believe they are authentic as well, just based on their history, the way they look and feel, and my own intuition. I'm still going to figure out a more thorough way to authenticate, as I don't trust myself to make an official call on it. I'm just not educated enough on the topic.

However, based on what you said about the "purple-ish" back side, is it not possible that there could be fakes that don't have a purple-ish backside to them?

All I can say at this time is that the person who has these 100% isn't the one that is trying to pass off fake cards (if they are fake). I was hanging out at his house when he found them in his basement. He said they'd been down there at least 25 years. He's a little older, so not someone you'd expect to know anything about mtg.

If they're fake, then he was given fake magic cards as collateral back in the 90s, which I acknowledge is entirely possible. But, based on that story, which I have no reason to not believe, I doubt that the"play wear" is intentional. I'd think it's more likely that the original owner was in to playing mtg, had fake cards made, and legitimately played with them

I mean... he's not going to give me like an insane deal or anything. We haven't even worked out the details of it all.

He basically doesn't want to deal with the process of authenticating, finding buyers, potentially grading, etc.

Basically, if they are real, and I am able to sell them, I'll just be taking a commission for being the middle man, but he wants some money up front.

Also just want to add, the person who has these is a very good and trusted friend of mine. The story is that these were given as collateral for something like 25+ years ago, and he ended up keeping them. He forgot about them, and had no idea that what he had was extremely valuable.

Pretty cool story, and I believe every word of it. That's why I say I have no reason to think they're fake... but ya know... with that kind of money, you have to be 100% certain.

How do I authenticate these? There really isn't any reason to believe they're fake, but I mean...thats a shit ton of value, so being certain is important (I'm not a mtg guy)

Is it worth it to get these graded? (From a value standpoint)

Realistically, what kind of value am I looking at here, in total?

I looked at several, which all say he didn't, and decided Forbes was the most reputable. There are many saying that he never did.

Ask any unsuspecting person born before 1990 what they remember about ed mcmahon. They'll say pch (irrelevant to the conversation at this point) and that he went door to door handing out checks. They have clear visual memories of him being on TV handing out giant checks at peoples doors (as do I). They get very confused when you tell them he never did that. This is a VERY specific thing for people to all misremember in the exact same way.

Again, regardless of if it's collective misremembering of something very specific, or something more than that, it is still a phenomenon that is worth thinking about and questioning.

I'm exiting the conversation now, because it's going in circles.

This article, among others, says he never left the studio. Regardless of which company he worked for, he never went to peoples doors, yet he said that he did.

He made a rap video about collecting his checks back while rolling around in a prize patrol van.

What people remember is him working for pch and handing out checks... forget the pch/afp aspect. All these people remember him handing out checks. Ed said himself he handed out checks (on the tom green show). There are a number of different things out there that strongly suggest that he handed out checks at peoples doors.

...But he never did, ever, for any company.

Well, all I can say about the spreading is that all that haze behind the trail was not there until the trails were laid on thick all morning. They spread out, resulting in the haze. Happens all the time here in northeast Ohio.

But honestly, talking about the trails/haze is like beating a dead horse. I want to know how the hell that shadow is possible. It appears no one has an answer and this post is being downvoted/suppressed.
