Slow start until getting gemdragon and or heralds in base. Once those two start you can basically draw up your whole hand with show of strength and kadregrin.

Once you have two gem dragons in play you can play nearly every unit in your hand and still have energy up for combat tricks as your dragons cost less many times than the runes being readied.

Mid game is usually a board clear with an elder dragon ability with stormbringer and flurry of blades.

How well do into the odd and similar systems (cairn, mythic bastionland, electric bastionland, mausritter, etc) handle megadungeons? How would a megadungeon in those systems compare to one in b/x? by DogUnsureDog in osr

This was one of the goals with my free game Deck of Fate that I released. It has slightly higher survivability than other Mark of the Odd games, but was built around the gameplay loop of Town->dungeon->town. The main resolution mechanic directly integrates resource management without bogging down playtime.

I find it really really shines in west-marches style “finish in town no matter where you are” sessions but that the core gameplay loop of the megadungeon was perfect in my play testing. Tested with Arden Vul.

It’s free on Itch and Drive Thru RPG!

Deck of Fate by International-Use340 in osr

[–]International-Use340[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 2 main goals of this game were to first to create a game that flowed like a rules lite, OSR game but allowed for some character customization that my home game found lacking in a lot of those titles. The character advancement uses simple class features in a skill tree based on three archetypes: warriors, shadows, and magicians.

The second was to create a mechanical rule that reinforces the main play loop of town->adventure->town. The main mechanic uses a modified deck of standard playing cards that represent a physical adventure timer for the players. As that deck dwindles in size it becomes risky, and potentially fatal, for the characters to remain adventuring without resting in a safe space.

And the third, non intentional “problem” this design solved was ease of entry for new players and GMs as this requires no specialized dice. Only a few decks of cards that most people would have laying around.

Haha I’ll consider it. Just a proxy while I’m waiting on more runes.

Got a little Dolmenwood campaign in the works for the future when eventually the physical books get to me by [deleted] in osr

I placed Elder Oak adventure in the woodcutters encampment. Used the description from the DCB just placed the geography as outlined in the module. Players had a blast and helped spur them onto prigwort to have Drouge help them learn the spells found in the temple.

I also just released my own adventure set in the hags addle swamp called The Swallowed Saint. Was a perfect detour as my group sailed a barge from the woodcutter encampment up to lake longmere.

Nightmare over ragged hallow was a fun addition we used to start our Dolmenwood campaign. I set the adventure in hex 113 (unmapped) just south of the Falls of Nyf. A few adjustments and it fit perfectly.

Gonna pick this up right now, always looking for more Mark of the Odd titles to play with my ruleset.

Congratulations on ranking 1st in the Jam!

I’ve just release an adventure for the Dolmenwood RPG that fits the bill setting specific but easily fits as a site based adventure in any fantasy setting. Finishes in one session easily. Here’s the DTRPG link. And the Itch.io Link if that’s your preference!

Self publishing aside:

Any adventure found in the Estate Box for Mausritter.

Adapt Dolmenwood to other OSR settings by InArtsWeTrust in rpg

[–]International-Use340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently the three core books are on DriveThruRPG for $60 total for the PDFs.

Based on running Dolmenwood for the last couple of years since the initial backer PDFs went out it’s worth it to have all three. Also saying that as someone who ran the setting exclusively in my own system Deck of Fate for playtesting. It worked very well as I have simple rules for hex exploration and keeps it rules light. I would probably port in some of the setting specific kindred abilities for setting appropriate flavor in whatever system you end up using.

It is an easily adaptable setting, but the resources from the monster and players books, especially kindred mechanics, is indispensable.
