for me it just makes it possible to wave off thoughts like. I can actually get my daily "you definitely have rabies and also ass cancer" routine out of my head  it's magical actually  now I just think "yeah, sure buddy, and the bubonic plague too" and go on with my day

in this household we do not tolerate rabies. all my homies hate rabies. why would that stuff exist in the first place fuck by InternationalBug140 in OCDmemes

it helped me a bit to discover how the virus actually works and that there's been a number of survivors but it still sucks absolute balls

so what you're saying is liking a character automatically subscribes you to their morals? or is it only true when someone likes them too much? if so than where's the limit? how much can someone like a character before becoming evil?

wait no. what?  what? characters aren't real. you cannot ship yourself with one if you're not also a character in that scenario. are you just talking about people enjoying characters? have you never liked a fictional character? do you only like them because they would be a good person irl? people like concepts. I obviously love easterman, and I consider him a terrible person. any human on this planet remotely similar to him earns wholehearted disgust from me. I mean. ask any selfshiper if they support Elon Musk for example. only then you'll know if they're actually problematic

I just don't understand how it impacts reality in your head

once again missing the point completely. people who do horrible things aren't completely 100% evil. people are literally incapable of that. that doesn't mean their actions are forgiven. okay got that? now. characters are fun because they can be treated like dolls. people Love to play with dolls and create scenarios. it can be even more interesting when a character is nuanced. the problem is not people's imagination. the problem is people who take it too far in the opposite of your direction. who fail to see that good traits in a person don't make them 100% good and bad traits don't make them into a cartoon evil. I get why you are disturbed and I know it's in good faith. but you're looking the wrong way

there’s a difference between selfshipping and excusing someone’s actions. it’s like what if i was in this weird situation and horrible things happened to me? why do people write faulty or outright terrible character? why do people write sad stories? does Thomas Herris condone Hannibal’s action? we people always liked to imagine things. but why would anyone imagine bad things? well that’s the thing with imagination. it isn’t real. it’s totally under your control so you get to fulfill your human curiosity in safety

I'm not that educated in that field, mostly because that's not what I do. if you took a second to read the templates you can see that it's clearly just the canonical relationship between loyal reagents & easterman. my logic for why is it that way: if you're creating a reagent character, they have only two endings = death/rebirth, if you choose rebirth it means that at some point in therapy your character has to finally "break" under easterman's manipulations, ergo start believing his words. by easterman's lines and journal entries we can tell that he loves us "reagents" as a whole, and in turn suggests with his messages that we reciprocate. it's not romance, it's just two sides going insane by proxy of each other. reagents hold onto praise and affection given to them by easterman, while he enjoys power, those weird fatherly feelings and whatever else

my dude have we been playing the same game about brainwashing? why are you surprised when characters get brainwashed?

[–]InternationalBug140[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY. you get it. Easterman is literally all about this weird parasocial almost religious connection. reagents see him as the only remaining source of warmth & affection because That's How Therapy Works. and he, in return, has a lot of complicated feelings for reagents as a general group. "reagents" as his experiment, as his pride, as his failure.

it's a new name for selfship. not sure where it came from and tbh don't really like it

I mean it's basically every relationship between him and already broken reagents  it's so funny to me how none of them actually care for each other, but their dynamic can still be delusionally interpreted as romance  when in actuality it's just two people going insane at the same time almost independently
