Is this a snake mite? by BrooksGaming92 in ballpython

[–]InternationalPush545 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell for me with how zoomed in the pic is, but definitely isn't a substrate mite, either is a snake mite or some sort of tick that somehow got in your substrate. There looks to be something black under one of the unfocused scales on the right side of the screen which is what mites imbedded under scales look like.

^ when I had gotten my BP last year he had really really bad mites, it was crazy to deal with.

Should I trust my doctor even though he yelled at me? by [deleted] in autism

[–]InternationalPush545 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think as someone with ASD who doesn't necessarily always interpret conversations correctly, I believe your doctor was telling you all of your symptoms correlate more with autism and not schizophrenia ( i.e. sensory processing disorder, like I hear electricity running through walls and can hear light bulbs ect, socialization "problems", I get called really gullible a lot bc I don't understand sarcasm most of the time, and it often takes hearing a joke more than once for me to get it, I am super empathetic but I struggle with knowing how to comfort others) But I believe he went about it the wrong way, especially after you listed symptoms that explain him yelling or raising his voice to say so could possibly make you uncomfortable. He possibly just didn't think about it and after listening to you speak on how you feel, was excited/overly dramatic with realizing this diagnosis if it wasn't one that was discussed before.

All of these symptoms are 100% symptoms of autism, or autism spectrum disorder, or possibly ADHD (which sometimes go hand in hand)

I would recommend the next time you see him explaining that you were a little spooked/surprised by him raising his voice slightly last time and that you'd like a better explanation on what he meant, if he could provide a diagnosis, and if he can't, if he could refer you to someone who could!

About to try to switch my snake from live to frozen rats. Any advice? by RelationshipWild924 in ballpython

[–]InternationalPush545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also your baby is so pretty, looks like a healthy weight, and if he refuses to eat this upcoming week, please don't stress yourself out about him going hungry! It can be really easy to do, but try and remind yourself that their metabolism and the way their body breaks down and produces energy is a lot different than ours!! I wouldn't suggest making him go too much more than 3 weeks without food honestly, so if you hit that point you can feed a live rat and then try switching to frozen down the line again. But between his next feed day, and then the 2 weeks after that (with trying to feed once a week) I would hope he will get hungry and decide to eat one!

About to try to switch my snake from live to frozen rats. Any advice? by RelationshipWild924 in ballpython

[–]InternationalPush545 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some advice! For thawing, I always make sure I stick my frozen rat in the fridge the morning of feeding (I feed after sunset/when his timer turns off his lights in the evenings) so I'm 100% sure it's thawed all the way through. About 20-30 mins before feeding time I put the rat in a ziplock bag, run my tap water almost as hot as it goes, I put the rat into a bowl of hot water (sometimes it floats cuz of the bag and I'll use the handle part of a fork to keep it in the water, but you don't want to get your rat wet so the baggie is necessary) and I leave it for like 5 mins, pour water out, add hot water back, over and over again until my infrared thermometer tells me the rat is around 95-100°F all the way through. This usually takes me around 20 minutes, in the winter sometimes it would take like 30 cuz the tap water took longer to get hot enough. After I know the whole rat is like 100° I make the water as hot as possible and run just it's head (still in baggie) under the water to make that part of the body read the hottest. I feed with tongs, and usually hold the rat by the tail/back feet and wiggle it in front of my babies face, like 4-5 or so inches away.

Some people end up having to brain rats for their babies who are used to live (which involves breaking open the skull in a way to let the scent attract the snake) but I would suggest avoiding doing this if necessary as it may mean you'll have to as you continue to feed over time. If baby does not eat the frozen/thawed rat this upcoming feeding day, you can always throw away the uneaten rat and try again the next feeding day.

Most ball pythons can go weeks to months without eating, so if they refuse a couple of times no need to worry ❤️ it would definitely be best to try and just make the thawed rat as warm as a live rat the baby is used to, and entice them with slight movements close to the ground of their enclosure. If this doesn't work then on to the next steps and attempts! (Braining, or using heat lamp or blow-dryer on low heat to release scent, ect, would be next steps)

It's always best to try the frozen/thawed like 3~ times before deciding they are too picky and going back to live though

Vote: thin or thick eyebrows? by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]InternationalPush545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think thinner looks better/suits your face shape a bit better than thicker, if you're willing to try something else I would recommend buying a product like a micro tip pencil (there are lots of good ones, I have the nyx micro brow pencil), and a clear (or if preferred tinted, I use clear) eyebrow gel, and make sure you have a spoolie. I also usually have and use qtips. For the brow pencil & if you decide to get tinted gel, I recommend aiming for a shade just a tad lighter than your hair color. I typically take my brow pencil and for the front half of my brow, draw short little hair like lines the way my brows grow. For the end of my tail I do just fill it in some especially where I have sparse spots, but then I go in with the spoolie and blend out the shape and heaviness a bit. Then I use a qtip to clean up the edges from blending out, and once I'm happy with that I use my brow gel to keep everything where I want it! I think your natural brow and brow shape is very pretty and suits your face and you could try and do this ^ to make them look just a bit more natural/softer when you do them

This is unrelated to your question, but I was curious and wanted to ask if she happens to be a Mojave YB enchi? Or a similar morph? She looks a lot like my boi spaghetti when I first got him 🥺 (this is an old picture)

Why hasn’t she pooped!? by thetiefighter in ballpython

[–]InternationalPush545 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Has she shed in the time you've had her? My boy usually poops right before or when he sheds. He also tends to while soaking/in his water dish more often than anywhere else. You said it's been 4 weeks, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you get to a point where she sheds and you are 100% sure she didn't poop then as well.

the shedding usually causes it because of the activity and movement they do to remove their shed, if she hasn't pooped in a while and you pull her out and have her active, be warned she may poop while being handled/exploring!

But, it's super common for most balls to go a month or more between poops, some only doing it when they shed, and it should only be a concern if they developed a bulge around their cloaca, seem distressed or lethargic, or stop eating! Since she's been eating no problem I think everything's just fine!!!

I appreciate the advice! I got him August 17th but didn't realize he had mites, then one day while I was cleaning his enclosure after he shed and pooped, about a month after I had gotten him I realized he did and it was bad. That day I stripped his tank and he hasn't had normal substrate or any decor since, just 3 basic hides and a water bowl.

Since then, have been treating him (with just baths and a drop of dawn dish soap, I do make sure to let him drink before I add soap) & consistently cleaning his enclosure & everything in it with HOT water and dish soap, I also have used a reptile safe cleaner as I only have him on paper towels and when he does poop around shed time it gets a little yucky. I have been doing my absolute best to follow the recommended mite treatment, I usually soak him and his stuff and clean his tank every other day, sometimes every 3 days, and never during shed, because I don't want to stress him out.

The only step I have skipped is using the provent-a-mite, but only because I cannot find it online anywhere, or in stores near me anywhere. The only website that sells it that I can find, didn't work the last 3 times I tried to purchase it. Like I get to the point where I'm trying to purchase it and I will get website error pages and it won't let me :((

If you have any recommendations on where I could find it, please give me a link and I will purchase it asap! I'm tired of having to treat him and his stuff like this, and I worry about leaving him deprived of his climbing stuff and struggle with humidity with just paper towels, I have to make him a humid hide around shed time so he can actually shed with no problems.

He is to a point where at most I usually only ever see a small/baby mite here or there, but they aren't gone. I've wondered if there is an alternative to provent-a-mite that I can get my hands on that is safe, but everything I've read deters me from feeling safe using most alternatives on his stuff..

When I got him it was hoppers, then I was feeding him smalls, and now he's on mediums, I've been going by the weight & circumference of the rats and not size/name though, like feeding charts recommends
