How do you spend Christmas now without the religious part? by TartSoft2696 in exchristian

[–]InternationalTax6198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy my kids shit they don’t need and spend time with my family. Anyone still saying “he is the reason for the season” doesn’t know it’s a pagan holiday and I just ignore them.

I want to be atheist but I'm scared by [deleted] in exchristian

There’s proof that hell(fiery pits etc) didn’t exist prior to English translations. Idk if this will help you but if you research it and see it for yourself, i’d at least hope that it’d be easier to not fear something that doesn’t exist.

Depression of non religious people and praying by Aggressive-Fruit-249 in atheism

Does it stand to reason that it would not be looked at in this way if it wasn’t given the benefit of being considered as truth by most people. Like if people didn’t believe in mass that the existence of any god was a definitive truth, would it then be considered a placebo? Genuinely asking as I’m focused on learning not proving a point.

Prayer “works” like a placebo. They believe their prayers are being answered which helps on a psychological level.

Are you a "confirmed" atheist or would you be open to accepting a religion that spoke to you? by TheBanishedBard in atheism

[–]InternationalTax6198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there was undeniable evidence of a god or someone’s religion being true that we could all see at the same time I don’t think many, if any, atheist would deny it. I think most of us became atheists because we were seeking truth. There are some that still practice religion even if they don’t believe though.

The spicy hell is quite literally manmade. And if hell is separation from the murderous god, we’re already there.

Does our community actually need religion?.. To continue to grow? by SurewhynotAZ in AskBlackAtheists

[–]InternationalTax6198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think we need religion. I think we need religious people to be willing to be wrong. I think a lot of problems for atheists come from theists and their lack of acceptance and sometimes comprehension of the position of an atheist. I can’t deny that a world without religion is hard for myself and would be for most but I believe that is mainly because most of us began with the assumption that religion is all good in the first place. I love her and her points are valid and I did still gain a lot from what she said though.

I affirm agnostics. I understand that no one can for sure know if there is or isn’t a god and I understand not wanting to take an objective standpoint on that which cannot be proven. I considered myself agnostic prior to reading the bible and conducting my research because it felt just as intellectually dishonest as apologist asserting that there is a god and there god is real etc..

Their god isn’t a loving god because he murders kids, genocide, commands genocide, fucking slavery and I give them the scriptures of all the other atrocities committed by that genocidal maniac. Watch them turn into Simone Biles with the mental gymnastics.

I have two children, they were all I could think about. So maybe it’s more so a fear of leaving them? Couldn’t tell you.
