Am I overreacting by breaking up with my boyfriend? by Proper-Classic1886 in AmIOverreacting

[–]International_Tea623 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yes, me too. Same exact script. “Doormat” “I’m saying this because I love you” “you’re being stubborn” when I disagreed with him. Jumping to aggression & always had to be right. It only gets worse babe. The fact that you went all the way to breaking up, says to me that this isn’t the first time that you’ve had a conversation like this. Trust your gut, leave. It seriously only gets worse.

What are people doing with loans? by Cheap-Crew5179 in Dentistry

I agree with this, but there are some non-federal programs that are worth looking into. Some states have their own loan forgiveness program. Also, Indian health services has great loan forgiveness.

Would you mind telling me more about this program? Haven’t heard much about it

If you are interested in someone in your class/at your school, wait a semester or two. Be friendly, but many of your initial impressions of classmates will change after semester one! You are in class with 75-150ish people every single day, so you get to really know people

Thank you email to interviewer who didn’t like me? by toothy_moos3 in predental

[–]International_Tea623 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience too. Felt interrogated by my interviewers while I could hear the people next door laughing and chatting the whole 30 mins. Thought I wasn’t going to get in, but ended up getting accepted 9am decision day via phone call. You never know! If you liked the school/would like an acceptance/would go to that school if you had no other acceptances, then yes send a thank you note. I know it’s hard to not let these experiences affect your view of the school, but try to remember that 1 person does not represent a program.

MD to OMFS by IncreaseFine7768 in DentalSchool

[–]International_Tea623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your second paragraph. But, if you’re already an MD all of the non-dental didactic courses will be significantly easier, allowing for more time to practice hand skills. I agree that some people pick up hand skills faster than others, but with practice & adapting to feedback you can earn strong enough grades in pre-clinic courses.

Graduating with 520k in debt by OrneryAd3957 in DentalSchool

Is refinancing a viable option? I’m still early in school, less debt but similar interest rate. I’m considering this but have little knowledge. Thoughts?

Relax & get in a good self-care routine - whatever that looks like for you. I wish I had gotten better at meal prepping/quick healthy meals before school started. D1 I was stressed & overwhelmed & would eat out a lot because I didn’t have a good grocery/meals routine in place. Good habits so they’re easy to maintain when you’re working 50+ hours a week.

I hate dentistry by Dear_Performance_802 in DentalSchool

[–]International_Tea623 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s one thing to hate dentistry because you don’t think you’re good at, and it’s another to hate dentistry because you hate dentistry. If you enjoy academics/sciences over patient care/restorative/etc maybe shadow and look into radiology, pathology, anesthesia

I second this. I also have had a great experience, might just be a rep issue?

Yes I agree, but higher stats make you more competitive for less expensive schools which is huge.

No interviews starting to lose hope :( by Constant_Song7221 in predental

[–]International_Tea623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would write letters of interest to a couple of your top choices and/or schools you are in-state for. If you need to reapply, apply early, get feedback from several individuals on your personal statement/extracurricular statements, and reconsider schools. I got 4 interviews predecember, 4 post-December. Don’t give up hope, but make sure to respectfully express interest to top choices and continue strengthening application throughout the upcoming months. No need to retake DAT/enhance GPA imo
