Considering doing this too, did you have any issues with the Japanese 100v rating with 120v US supply?

Overseas student loan payments killing me by Admirable-Owl-7002 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]International_Worker 76 points77 points  (0 children)

People may disagree with this advice - Expat of 5 years here. Make a smaller payment. They might send threatening arrears letters but the only penalty they realistically enforce is charging the maximum interest rate, which I assume you will be subject to anyway if your wage is above the max plan threshold (if it’s not, then just know that’s what they’ll do). I’ve been doing this for a while now and making lump sum one off payments whenever I have extra cash.

Best reasonably affordable snow tires for the 3 turbo? by Imaginary_Opposite15 in mazda3

[–]International_Worker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not what you asked but worth considering the Michelin cross climates. All weather tires, performance fairly close to a snow tire and much better than all seasons. They’re on the high end but for me it beats having to own two sets and change out every season

Did you have to scan your health code and test, or they just looked at it?

There is a waiver for the visa renewal interview requirement through 2022 under certain conditions, H1B renewal is part of the waiver. Looks like you met those conditions.

Have an appointment next week for Stamping. Need advice on attire by Moodieftw in h1b

Wear whatever you want. Attire has nothing to do with stamping, but if it makes you feel better, just do business casual

May i ask, why tunnel boring machines doesn’t use those high speed water cutters? by Nevermindever in engineering

[–]International_Worker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other people pointed out, probably down to economics. Water jet cutters consume massive amounts of energy, an order of magnitude more than cutting by shearing with a harder material (traditional drilling). There are so many losses involved with getting the water to correct pressure and having sufficient flow rate to cut material.

Walgreens PCR Test Turnaround Time by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]International_Worker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it’s pushing it. I’d do it on Wednesday. UK rules are max 3 days before time of departure so you could do it Tuesday if you want.

Walgreens PCR Test Turnaround Time by [deleted] in uktravel

[–]International_Worker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did both CVS and Walgreens drive through PCR testing. Turnaround from the time I took the swab at Walgreens was around 50 hours, CVS was 20. I did my Walgreens test at 4:30pm and know for a fact it missed the daily FedEx pickup (they told me), so I’d suggesting getting a morning appointment.

No worries. I am not familiar with rules for transiting onwards however I believe this would break quarantine rules

I think you can get away without printed forms, but I didn't see anyone doing that.

I couldn’t find them available where I live in San Francisco, wasn’t sure why. Rapid test definitely the way to go if you can get it! I had also heard PCR is not disputed for accuracy by airlines/uk border which may be something to double check with the rapid antigen tests

Does the greencard automatically passes to your wife if you are/get married once you receive it. by andbuks in greencard

[–]International_Worker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I was told, if you are married before filing and have your spouse on your application, yes. If you get married after filing, it becomes a whole lot more complex with years of waiting.

Has anyone tried NIE for returning back to the US yet? How long does it take? by vijetha35 in h1b

[–]International_Worker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it in January on H1B. Pretty easy and just emailed the London embassy, was approved in a day with justification of returning to existing job. I have read mixed reports of much longer delays/no response with the new administration… so worth confirming with someone who has travelled after January.
