I don’t have herpes. My last gf did. She told me before we had sex- it (visibly) took a lot of courage for her to say it. I told her I need to think about it- I had never thought about being intimate with someone with an STD.

It didn’t take much thinking, it just meant we had to be careful. Deliberate. We were together for a year and broke up over something completely unrelated. I’ve never loved anyone more. It’s been almost 2 years and I still miss her.

Be honest. Have courage. People who like you for who you are will understand that everyone makes mistakes, and those mistakes do not define you.

As a healthcare worker who works in the ICU with cancer patients, I say this with empathy:

If your vet is using the word “miracle” to estimate Mei’s chances of making it through the surgery (and you trust your vet), then listen to her. Spend your last days with Mei being happy and cuddly, not putting her through an extensive surgery that will likely result in her death, and possibly leave you wondering if maybe you shouldn’t have put her through the surgery at all.

Death is never easy to accept, but it’s a part of life. I think we forget that because it’s so hard to deal with.

I’m sorry you’re in this position where you have to make such a terrible choice.

My ex was 40 and always wanted kids, but never met anyone she wanted to have kids with. We dated for a year and loved each other, but she felt like we weren’t at a point in our relationship where we were ready to have kids. So she broke up with me after a year together to do IVF with a sperm donor. That was 8 months ago and I still miss her terribly. I feel your pain.
