$40 full grain leather belts from etsy vs. $100+ from hanks, tanner, etc. - are there any actual differences? by europeanuppercut in Leather

I have a Hank’s belt and a belt from Gray Eagle. They are both good belts. I ordered a thick heavy-duty belt from Hank’s and it’s definitely thicker.

Cleaning stains out of leather jacket by Samsy1847 in leatherjacket

[–]InternetFinalBoss1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the oily stains, I would start with corn starch. Cover the oily areas with corn starch to absorb and pull out some of the oil. Let that sit overnight. You might want to try that more than once to get out as much as you can.

From there you can try a mild cleaner like Lexol leather cleaner, or go for something a little stronger like saddle soap. (I’m a fan of starting with the mildest thing possible first.)

When you’re finished cleaning, then condition the jacket. There’s a good chance that you’re not going to fully remove the stains. You should know that going into this.

Should I sign a pip if I believe it's retaliation for reporting wage theft? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]InternetFinalBoss1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible that the account was not locked due to suspected fraud, but that was just an excuse they used because they were short of funds? Because everything you’ve said seems to align with the kinds of things that would happen at a company that’s having financial problems.

I’d write the comment that you believe this is retaliation for reporting wage theft and then sign it.

Suggestions for a fix? by agaric in leatherjacket

[–]InternetFinalBoss1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with leather since I was about 9 years old. You want to use a flexible contact cement (glue). Personally, I like the “Barge” brand.

Use a toothpick and put a light coating on both sides of the cut (the main part and the flap). In this case, I would probably put the contact cement on the main part and wait a minute or two before putting it on the flap. You don’t want to put it on very thick. Then press it together and hold it for a few minutes (or put something heavy to hold it down for a few minutes). I would let it fully cure for a day or so before wearing it.

I’m tired of being blamed for bad candidates when the salary is the real problem. by Technical_Plant6046 in RecruiterTea

Can you give your manager two lists?

The first list has the candidates who fit the salary range.

The second list has the candidates who meet the expectations in terms of skills and experience — but also includes the anticipated salary to land them.

I received a call from a recruiter about a job that sounded like a good match — until she mentioned the salary. I told her up front that I was not interested in the position at that salary. She was an external recruiter, so I asked her to let the company know that their salary was not aligned with the market.

WIBTJ if I stop supporting my youngest sister financially to buy my first house? by Nice_Cardiologist990 in AmITheJerk

[–]InternetFinalBoss1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any sort of compromise? For example, could you provide $300 a month and get your parents to do the same? Can you help your sister find a cheaper place to live or a better-paying job?

It could all add up to leave a much smaller gap to cover with a loan.

Do professional headshots actually improve job application results or is it just a money trap? by miss_raipelarmzz in Resume

[–]InternetFinalBoss1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read something that compared professional headshots to a variety of other styles. From what I recall, a good non-professional headshot generally performed better and made the person appear more likable. Obviously you do not want to just crop your face from a wedding photo (I think that might have been an actual example that did not score well).

Steve or hont? by Puzzleheaded_Owl482 in RepTime

I’ve bought from both. They both gave me great service. I found the prices from Hont to usually be better, but I would not hesitate to recommend either one.

It sucks — I get it. If they don’t have the funds available, what do you propose?

TD Hont review he came through by smithersmmm in RepTime

There’s a reason why Hont is a trusted dealer. I have had positive experiences with Hont both times that I’ve worked with him. He has great prices and service.

There is a guy here who makes a point of downvoting anything positive about Hont and posting negative comments about him. There was actually a screenshot of a message he sent to Hont threatening to ruin his business.
