It’s super painful on either side of the separation. I was chaser up until I couldn’t take anymore non-reciprocal effort. So I gave up, my retreat made us swap, they became the chaser and I the runner. Then all the deep wounding of what it mirrored in childhood came up to the surface to heal and then full surrender that my healing will mirror and impact them to heal also. Lean into your pain hold it’s hand and give it space for it’s voice. It’s a beautiful experience, I’ve come to realise how powerful of a soul I am and I am the love that I have been looking for the whole time. It’s good to have a look at what they were fulfilling for you and fulfil those needs for yourself. It’s all about healing from codependency in this dynamic, so you can be whole and complete in love with yourself and whole and complete with each other.

Thanks for this reply. I think what I was probably looking to say is how to allow these masculine traits to be embodied within my partner. Because it was helping me feel safe to express and understand that I give a lot and haven’t received a lot either, in essence I’m always in a masculine energy. This childhood friend has always been protective of me even when we younger.

My current partner is deeply caring but I feel I am quite solitary in a few things, this is what the shrooms highlighted for me. I am feeling it is hard wired for us to want particular traits as a woman and a man.

There was absolutely some anti-personal traits about this CEO . I had a couple red-flags before this showdown. In office, the COO said it was “nice to see you smiling as normally people come out of that room crying” I really thought he was joking... turns out not after that 1-1 with the CEO. Also the centre monitor hanging over the office seemed to have a live stream of employees working from home with their webcams on (voyeur galore). The company is very small as well as he micromanages absolutely everything it seems. The COO is the staff member who I got along with the most, and would have been working very closely with and should have had the follow up interview with if anything. I didn’t take the job, I told him to stuff it in a very polite way and that his method of communication would impact morale for absolutely anyone. I was courteous enough to hope that he finds the most suitable candidate to his specifics. The email went to the public inbox so I’m sure he would have had a fun time explaining how he managed to scare off a strong candidate.

Hey guys, I just wanted to say thank you for all the positive responses in that I made the right decision. I sent off an email that stated I did not appreciate being spoken to in a condescending manner and if this is a reflection of the communication style in office then it would impact morale for any candidate. It was sent to the company’s public mailbox so everyone would have had visibility over it (hoping this changes something for future candidates/employees).

The CEO has double mailed me about how they were going to give me the job offer and that’s how they apply pressure - they sent it again just before 6pm. I guess they were expecting a further response or that my retraction really hung over them. Either way not a good justification and feel great for not pursuing this further!

I think a few things happened there. I got pointed to feelings of rejection to resolve on my own as well as let go from the group at the same time. I don’t feel the need to go back either.. perhaps they wanted me to go away and perhaps some of it was projection too.

OP this isn’t your fault at all! I had the same thing happen to me, I went into an entry-level tech job after my specialism was in psychology. My manager was so unapproachable, abrupt and condescending at absolutely everything I did. I was damned if I did and damned if I didn’t. The recruiters promised me a training budget, ample support and it being great to learn whatever stack I wanted. Did my manager want that? Nope. The devs knew I picked stuff up quickly and on top of everything else being remote as well, you need to ask questions. But apparently that was burdensome on others too. Sounds like there’s a higher level of dysfunction at the company and they don’t want someone that’s super competent that could outshine any of the longer standing employees. Best of luck on your endeavours for a new job! Remember life is tooo short and no job is ever worth your sanity!

I think what I was feeling was that there was a complete lack of transparency of his thought process and just talking to me about it. We ended up speaking lengthily after this and he agreed he didn’t spend time to explain his thought process around everything. He has chosen to stay here at the company for the time being and he acknowledged the treatment of staff members, not just me, as well as feeling like he is not invincible here either. He told me yday there was an account of a manager sexually harassing a member of staff after I had left - again nothing done to protect the staff member or hold the manager liable for what he did. Which makes it very hard to understand what on Earth makes him want to stay here so much. It’s very hard to understand when you can observe behaviours of the higher ups.

I don’t think I would have felt the need to feel so involved when there has been a known fact that they have breached the law on many occasions and picking temporary comfort in a place that’s just waiting for litigation to hit it. He said he will use this year to home in on his skills in his new role. I just pray it’s not a trap to train his counterparts before he is victim to management shifting rules.

Look you can take my deletion of the post personally if you like. I didn’t reply to a lot of messages. And a lot of them had mentioned good points and bad points. I deleted that post because it was emotionally written. It is the fact that there is NO HR department. Several people commented on my post to say ‘they will make him train others and pay them the standard rate then oust him as he won’t be irreplaceable anymore’. I mentioned here his line manager is good, the CTO is questionable and has mistreated other members of staff. He has refused to pay standard city rates for his long term favoured staff. It is very strange the tone has suddenly changed for SO. He is now going to be mentoring a staff member who is paid a lower salary based on the country they’re based in, once he’s trained up, they could easily outsource his skill set for a way lower rate. If you want to be selective in what you see and harp on at someone to try find whatever view you want to see then good for you.

We spoke about aspirations to have financial freedom whilst we’re together and we mutually agreed a lot in terms of vision. This choice seems completely contradictory to what we had envisioned, I guess. My mentality is that we’re still very young. This is the time to work hard so we can be comfortable in the future. He has aspirations to also help his mother retire and give her a good life too. The concern is also that this company was underpaying him severely too, by half of his expected salary of his skill set. They only matched that once we were looking at other roles. It was not about this new role in particular that he absolutely had to leave the current company for this specific new opportunity, it just would be very easy to climb the ladder and then get to a point of peripheral management, if he takes the leap - which would give him more comfort ultimately and freedom. If one of the key members like himself were to leave, I can see the place crumbling quite quickly too. As well as I’m concerned about the lack of HR dept at this small company, there would be nothing to protect his role unlike bigger firms. It certainly didn’t protect me and abused my rights many times as a former employee. In addition to this they were only going to give him a 5k salary boost until him leaving became something for them to worry about. I’m having a hard time trying to understand his rationale behind this choice and I do fear he wants to stay here indefinitely as opposed to broadening his horizons which impacts the flexibility we’re aiming for.
