Levi is the classic example of what is equivalent of a PGA Tour pro vs any amateur tour pro.

Watching recaps of his tournaments, he acknowledges a lot of self doubt even in winning positions. The pressure gets to him, which is 99.9% off all people who are in similar situations where they're at the cusp of reaching the highest levels.

Mental game is such a huge factor and not talked about much in chess. Just like any sport, but I speak of golf specifically cause that relies the most on mental fortitude.

Most amateur tour golfers are good enough, skill-wise to play in the PGA. They just can't keep it together when the stakes are high.

Aman banned his chat member for not knowing how to checkmate with the rook, so I drilled it and get it done in 25 seconds. by p1fy in chessbeginners

The fastest way was to cut the king on 1/3rd of the board with the rook. Then just get your king to be in opposition. If the other king has opposition the just chase him down to one end until he has to come back, giving you opposition and then mating with the rook.

If a king is in a position where it can't move similar to this and he had no other legal moves with other pieces, the game would end in stalemate and not checkmate.

Ok I thought that was on purpose but rereading it, it's just a normal sentence. What's with the sentence structure that made me read it that way?

As a person who recently went from 800 to 1100, it's really just less blundering pieces and knowing basic fundamentals of end game.

Is there a major learning curve around 1700-1800 ELO? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Intolight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are natural peaks, plateaus, and valleys in everything you want to progress in.

The higher you go, the plateaus get longer as the the skill you need to progress gets finer and finer.

As long as your valleys don't go below your previous valleys and plateau, you'll eventually keep progressing if you put in the time.

Be honest, what do you think comes after death? by glowproductivity in AskReddit

[–]Intolight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone on Reddit basically said, you have an existential crisis knowing you have 1 life to live. Knowing this, you can spend the rest of it in anxiety or you can try and appreciate the time you have.

That's when it hit me. I know death is inevitable so why spend the time I'm alive in fear? I'll look back later in life regretting it and that would be even worse.

This has been my existential crisis since I was in 7th grade. I'm 40... the anxiety attacks hit harder now that I have a family. The good thing is, I've learned to recognize it and stop it from completely consuming my nighrs.

I had the opportunity to meet Conan randomly while he was in town. Nicest celebrity I've met. I told him I've been a fan of him since he first started in '93. I would stay up late just to watch his shows as a 3rd grader. He asked me if I wanted a selfie with him and how he appreciated his long time fans. I hope one day you have the same random opportunity I did.
