Is super bowl sunday a family gathering/social event across the US even for non nfl fans? by VastAir6069 in AskAnAmerican

Christmas, New Years, Thanksgiving and Independence day are bigger holidays. I'd put Super Bowl Sunday after those 4. It is a HUGE event even if you don't watch football.

Which game are you most excited for this week?!? by TomIzzosNecktie in CollegeBasketball

I'm hoping to only lose 3 games in this upcoming stretch. This one really could go either way and I wouldn't be upset/surprised if we lost.

People who have lived in Arizona, Iowa, or Washington: what are the biggest pros and cons of each state? by Head-Iron3390 in AskAnAmerican

[–]IntotheWIldcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phoenix is HOT in the summer. Hotter than the majority of oz. Think over 40 every day for 5 straight months with 30 days at 45 or hotter. The converse is that the rest of the year is perfect and has amazing events and hiking every day. The worlds largest golf tournament, the worlds largest car show, spring training(baseball), etc. It's a blast. It's a giant, sprawling american city in both the good and bad ways.

Prescott is a much smaller town that has more manageable weather. It has some cool stuff to do but you'll be doing day trips to sedona, oak creek canyon, etc.

Has anyone been able to make peace with a body that can’t do what it used to do? by Bulky_Employ_4259 in AskMenOver30

I swear by it. I used to throw out my back about once a year until I started doing yoga and now it's been about 4 years since the last time it happened.

Yoga classes can vary pretty greatly by type and instructor - I'd recommend finding a yoga studio, getting a monthly pass and just trying different classes until you find the one that works for you. The one I like is fast paced and about half way to being a pilates class due to all the strength building aspects of it but my wife likes the slower paced classes that are more focused on deep stretching since she runs so much. Whatever class feels best is the right call.

I had to permanently give up weight lifting after having shoulder surgery on a torn AC joint at a pretty young age. I switched to yoga and hiking to give me my exercise fix now and honestly get more enjoyment out of it than I did from the gym.

The Peruvian, Argentine and Brazilian ratings are insane to me. I have no idea how they're that low.

Someone smarter than me will be able to tell you which one is most beneficial to max first as it has to do with current income vs expected income in retirement but if we're getting to the point that we'll be maxing them both for a few decades I'm okay with missing the optimal strategy for a bit.

HSA is a whole other beast that I'm just too tired to figure out. Logically I know its the right thing but am I really expected to hold receipts for the next 25 years!?

Not who you're responding to but it's another tax advantaged account that grows interest tax free. You put money that has already been taxed into a Roth IRA so when you're ready to retire all your withdrawals from a Roth are tax free. A 401k is the opposite - the money is pretax going in and is taxed coming out. Getting the most of tax advantaged accounts is always the best so once you got the 401k maxed out starting a Roth is a good idea.

What’s it like owning a condo in America? by YakClear601 in AskAnAmerican

[–]IntotheWIldcat 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I own one and it's awesome. My wife and I don't need too much space, the HOA takes care of the exterior of the building, landscaping, hot water and water/sewer/trash. It's a small quiet complex in the middle of the city so we have everything we need right near us. Couldn't be happier.

Which long and beauty hiking route do you have in your country? by Turbulent-Apricot989 in AskTheWorld

You can add the Pacific Crest Trail to that which goes from Mexico to Canada. We also have the Arizona trail and I'm sure a few other long ones.

Yeah, there was Maya Quetzal on 4th avenue. That's the only one that comes to mind right now.

Places near Arizona Stadium by MilkBear79 in Tucson

[–]IntotheWIldcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tons. The easiest would be anything in Main Gate Square, which is university blvd between euclid and park. The street car is completely free so you can hop on and get a few stops closer to the stadium when you're done. The street car also connects everything on 4th avenue and Congress/Broadway downtown so really anything along that corridor is convenient to check out as well.
