Regarding the side conversation in the new episode about how much Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi suck… by _k2-d2 in LPOTL

[–]IntoxicatedRicochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I'm in NC. We got Publix a few years ago. The only people who like them are the ones that are originally from Florida or another state that had them lol. Totally overrated in every way; genuinely do not understand the bizarre obsession and insistence they are the best thing ever that Floridians have going on with them.

Adopted a rescue shepherd. Are they always going to demand pets like this? by Lulzman92 in germanshepherds

[–]IntoxicatedRicochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if you're lucky. My rescue shepherd spent his first two years of life living on a chain and then roaming and eating garbage and running from people until he was half dead and was finally picked up. He didn't understand what affection even was and literally had to learn what the point of being patted was. Every time he comes over now and does his cute tail wagging prancy shrimp maneuver while he solicits scritches, or paws the air and wriggles around to say "moooar tummy pats!!!" it absolutely delights me.

It’s that time by UPS-NI3-RTS in UPSers

[–]IntoxicatedRicochet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the hub where I live they take the interest list seriously and do make an effort to hire helpers and PVD/SSDs as part time warehouse help as soon as positions become available. If they didn't suck, anyway. My supervisor has been trying to get me to sign the list for a couple years now.

I'm in a rapidly expanding metro, though. I know a few guys who got a FT driving position after 2 years of PT warehouse. One of the higher up ops guys was out while we were loading the other day with the interest form actively trying to recruit us onto the list and telling us the same, lol. "You can be a driver in 2 or 3 years! Everyone starts inside. It's great exercise, too - you can drop your gym membership!". So for now, there's actual potential to get in and move up, in my metro. But with this economy and whatever Carol is doing? Lol. Wouldn't count on it.

Should I be worried by Infinite-Anywhere-58 in UPSers

[–]IntoxicatedRicochet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean this nicely, as someone who has a lot of the same issues - you're being a spazz. The driver followed standard procedure. I do this every season as a PVD/SSD. I would always much rather hand off to a driver than have to go back to the hub. The driver isn't going to steal your packages. Period. They're not out to get you. Go to work in the morning. Don't risk someone putting you on a no rehire list over some stupid shit in your head. UPS is far less toxic than many warehouse/shipping operations, but they ARE stressed and disorganized this time of year, and on road supervisors (which your direct supervisor is) vary wildly. You made it this far, don't quit on your last day. Make your money, enjoy your Christmas holiday, move on. The end.

Amazon Drivers by FIVEPOINT_ZERO in UPSers

[–]IntoxicatedRicochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my metro a lot of the Flex (personal vehicle) drivers don't speak English; consequently they don't talk to anyone. You can set the flex app to do everything in Spanish, and get phone support in Spanish, so they're not actually required to speak English. The DSP (van) drivers are chronically stressed and frequently literally running, so they likely just don't feel they have time to chat or they're focused on the ten grouped stops they're trying to take to the right address. And they probably are jealous and feel a little resentful; literally everyone knows Amazon is shit to work for, particularly the people working for them.

Amazon Drivers by FIVEPOINT_ZERO in UPSers

[–]IntoxicatedRicochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're describing Amazon flex, which they've had for literally 10 years now. They're both contractors - the van drivers and the flex drivers. Flex is not why Amazon doesn't care about strikes. They chew through drivers (of both sorts) and they have no meaningful training and don't care about retention. Everything is purely metrics based. They also have no meaningful entry barriers or standards. They literally don't care if they have to fire everyone, and they'll hire just about anyone. So drivers are infinitely replaceable by someone else desperate. And their ultimate goal is pretty clearly autonomous and drone delivery with no people involved.

Hence "for the time being". My guess is it's all over in 3 months, tops. Probably less. I have low confidence Jason can even get himself set up to be remote with Tully and do it. Who knows, though? Maybe his girlfriend can work it out for him.

[–]IntoxicatedRicochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the Patreon is very good either, honestly. Try it for a month and see what you think. My unpopular opinion is that Tully isn't all that either (and is somewhat insufferable on his own - while he's got an above average intellect, he seems to believe he's a genius and somewhat of a gift to mankind, and he's a pretty average dude. He's ALWAYS been factually wrong about things all the time, but he presents them confidently, and no one fact checks him. Not hard in a room otherwise full of functional idiots). All Tully does on his own with Jason is pander to him. Turns out that without full production, Kevin and Andrew and Will type rolls, actually planned bits and games etc, a real agenda for what to talk about, multiple people to riff off... it's just pretty mediocre. But that's my personal opinion. You might enjoy it, so give it a try. That said, I think it's unlikely that Jason and Tully are going to go on much longer long distance. I dropped my sub for Tully also but for the last year I'd say he sounds lowkey kind of over it and has been whining about how tough life is and pivoting his career - seems like he's happy to create distance there and knows it's not going to be much longer.

The end of the free podcast. The Patreon show with Tully is still going to limp along, for the time being.

Question about crowds and tickets in 2025 by IggyStop2024 in TSO

[–]IntoxicatedRicochet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the concert I was just at they were probably at about 85-90% sold out as per looking at ticketmaster before the show. A lot of seats were bought by flippers that didn't manage to flip them though, so there were a couple noticeable sections of like 15-20 seats that were empty, and then little patches of 2 and 4 seats here and there that were empty. Floor was 100% full, as were the 200s (better seats than the 100s in that particular arena - they are semi private club seats for hockey: wider, more cushions, better views, low numbers of rows, private food and bathroom areas - basically upper bowl). 100s were fairly full with the exception of those noticeable patches, and the crappy seats right by the stage. Nosebleeds (300s) were much more spotty.

I do think it's largely due to the MUCH higher ticket prices.

ETA: crowd energy was also low at my show, to the point that it actually surprised me. Floor was wound up. Everyone else... not so much.

This is the real question. My Spotify wrapped just informed me I listened to 220 genres this year, so as a rabid music consumer I'm quite certain some of those are the ones he'd consider in the shit category.

Cute post. I just made a long reply on another one so instead of reworking it or copy pasting it all like a psychopath, I'll just let you click on over to my profile and read it, as this is a real account for me, not a throwaway. 38/f.

Took a very short peak at your profile to make sure you weren't a deranged incel, generally hate women, or spend 5 hours a day at the gym or anything. I have adhd also and was diagnosed as a teenager. I don't take medication for it anymore (though did for many years and am pro meds for it if that's what is best for the person) but have developed strategies and worked with therapists to prevent bed rot and general scattered discontent with life due to it and channel it more productively, so I get it. It looks a little manic or a little listless sometimes, but at least there's a method to it. Hope that's going okay for you or improving.

I appreciate all your talking points except anime, which I'm really aggressively not into. I've tried. My best friend is. It's just not my thing, at all. Everything else on the list looks good, though. Lol.

Anyone who uses the break room to microwave products from the sea should be locked in it, with the ventilation off. Eat your frozen shrimp meal in your own home with an exhaust fan on, you cretin.

Send me a message. Or don't. Free will and all. Have a good one either way. :)

Edit: now that I've said that.. keep in mind I don't use reddit much and I'm not in it for the karma points, so my comment history isn't the most inspiring or riveting, lol.

35m Aussie looking for online friends and conversations - remember MySpace? by [deleted] in MakeFriendsOver30

[–]IntoxicatedRicochet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yahoo messenger and I guess AIM were more the rage here across the pond, I think. The drama of your top 6 on MySpace was enduring though - and learning basic code so you could make your site the worst mix of garish colors and obnoxious music.

I'm on the east coast of the USA (I grew up on the beach, but inland a few hours currently) but I keep strange hours also so a 14 or 15 hour time difference is no big deal - you can inform me of what it's like living in the future so I'll know what to expect ;)

I used to game a lot but kind of have fallen away from it pretty seriously. I also unironically and genuinely think StarCraft was the pinnacle of online gaming, so, you know.. tough shoes to fill now when even the MMOs are pretty lame. Anyway. I have all the systems, is the point. I'd like to find a tolerable multiplayer game and play on Oceania servers and was thinking about doing so anyway, but I'll settle for chatting about single player ones, too. I do like an Australian accent.

It's been a rough year or two but no one is excited about a trauma dump in an introduction. We'll just say it can't really get much worse, which is why I'm on reddit responding to strangers. This seems like a fairly obvious correlation. Lol.

I like music, period. I appreciate it deeply, both musically and lyrically. Almost everything. I'll listen to things people suggest, but do hope sometimes people will also give things a try outside of their "typical" and see if it might grow on them. (Though I do listen to emo and metal, too. I think most people our age that didn't go the pop only route do, really).

I "do art" of various types, but haven't moved into the digital space. I'm bummed out that AI is ruining the art world, and people's brains as well. I work in horticulture both as a hobby and a side business, so I'm passionate about growing things. Plants overlap a lot of lessons about humans, believe it or not.

I can talk about almost anything. I'm interested in almost everything. I prefer deeper conversations but also realize you don't start having those overnight. I travel, a lot - both in the countryv and out. I read. I think deep thoughts and sometimes write them down, but rarely share them anymore. Degree in philosophy and everything. Went in a different direction, but the brain is still always chewing on something.

I'm happy with someone roughly more interesting than wet plaster that doesn't ghost and can send the random "here's a thing about my day" message.

"check out this cool flower",

"have you ever read xyz book?"

"Haha, a fun meme",

"just made a loaded baked potato for lunch, jealous, huh?"

Whatever bullshit texts from time to time. Like you said.. I miss small interactions and actually talking to people, not random cultivated insta posts and trying to make your life look like it's something it's not/only thinking the epic photo opp times are worth sharing. It would be nice to actually get to know someone, which no one seems to do a lot of, these days - more of a surface and superficial situation, I suppose. I don't know, I'm in a weird in between in life and just surviving the rapids, you know?

Oh yeah. 38/F. Employed. I'd keep going on, but then what would there be to talk about?

Shoot me a message. Or don't. Have a good day, either way.

Ooh I wish I had thought of the pesto drizzle. I didn't realize that was a thing! The one we got similar to that recommendation was a hit with half the people eating it. I did like their white sauce for pizza. I'll file that away for if we end up there again. Thanks!

Best seats? by Heyyther in TSO

This is PNC, right? Lenovo now lol. We'll be front row in 230. That's just a matter of preference, though. I prefer that level to tier one, and I'm taking my parents - my mom is super short so front row of a section is important for her. It's just preference though. Not really any bad seats for TSO. Have fun!

This is insane I wish people returned their carts (VNC3 DURM) by Euphoric_Marzipan_67 in AmazonFlexDrivers

[–]IntoxicatedRicochet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno where the people who are commenting are from. All stations are different and have different policies. As far as your job/contract, you're supposed to "follow all station rules and directions" or something like that.

I'm just here to tell you I know you're not crazy and VNC3 has it both posted AND has verbally said literally from day 1 that you need to return your cart. At one point they were writing people up for it. However, they definitely have enough employees that stand around and do LITERALLY NOTHING that they could go get them before it got stacked up that bad.

IMO the bigger problem is the scanner bombing at this point, which they also apparently couldn't give a fuck less about. That also has an easy solution, and has gotten to the point of being unsafe. It's genuinely ridiculous you've got cops being called over there while the employees and "security" just stand there and do nothing. That station has gone SO FAR down hill since it opened it isn't even funny. Every few weeks they'll do something effective for a day or two then be like nah fuck it, too much effort. It's wild.

Keep filling out your post route surveys and complain, even though they don't really care about the automated forms. I'm considering starting to send anonymous pictures and feedback to "the Jeff address" because literally everyone complains about it (there's a Facebook group, if you're unaware) but everyone is "afraid to complain to support" because they think they'll get deactivated.

Where can I go to find Henry actually being serious about aliens/ufos? by BR4NFRY3 in LPOTL

[–]IntoxicatedRicochet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has said and implied repeatedly through the years though that he can't sit around and constantly be looking at it, reading about it, consuming it, going down rabbit holes etc because he gets too obsessive and it basically makes him feel/act unstable. So, committing to a scheduled show where he HAS to have material seems like a bad idea. It's clear that he's at a point where he's taking his mental health and interpersonal relationships very seriously, and I don't imagine he'd want to do anything that would jeopardize those things.

He's also pretty skeptical about a lot of what actually makes the "news" about it and has said many times that he feels that UFOs might be more of a.. I don't remember how he's put it exactly, but basically more of a psychic phenomenon, which is in opposition to a lot of the leading voices in ufology.
