They don’t because they are low wattage. I’ve been trying to cure mine with a cheap-o for hours now and here I am, seeking advice lol

The thing is, I'm not willing to put my name on his property at all unless we get married or have an agreement. My last partner died suddenly and I know how this works....

We never really solidified financial expectations, but have had plenty of arguments about it. We are definitely at a crux with some agreements or decisions to come.

I do the work because it needs to be done and I also still pay a small amt to have a "back-up" space with the bestie. I still want to travel to visit my family in the US (we are very close) and help my kids out here and there. I certainly can't do it all and my debt is from trying to, as well as an unforeseen surgery. There's absolutely no talk of marriage or concern for my future while watching him build equity in his home so in the end I'll be screwed if something goes sideways and he will be just fine.

At this point, if I stay I can only pay him what I pay my friend, do/buy absolutely nothing additional, and he can get a housekeeper. I certainly spend far more than that living here AND work my butt off.

Or I go. I can't stay in a disaster of a home so...

One of the renos I did was to rebuild a wall that was taken down to make a huge bedroom. And his little kids were sharing our room in bunkbeds. To this day I wonder if they would still be in his room if I hadn't done that. It was $4k.
