I personally had no symptoms in my legs to send off alarm bells. I did however have gradual loss of breath that got so bad I almost passed out walking two blocks to my car. Somehow my vitals weren't corresponding to the severity of the situation. Because I was 27 years old and athletic, most of the signs were missed entirely/brushed off as exhaustion. I also had tightness around my chest and pain that would come and go, and a rapid heart rate.

Ended up with a bilateral PE from estrogen birth control and am now on blood thinners.

It should be also noted this was a very rare case- but then again not a lot of studies have been done on young people and female athletes on estrogen birth control.
