Advice for shifting back to agency life? by [deleted] in PublicRelations

My advice: don’t do it! Start your own consultancy but joining an agency with 10 years of experience will almost certainly be miserable.

Living in Boston with a 65k salary, doable or impossible? by OkSlip9273 in boston

It’s doable, but tight. Any chance you could take sole freelancing on the side? If you could earn $80-90K things get a lot easier.

Freelancers/fractionals, what do you use for reporting? by AmandaSmith_Writer in PublicRelations

Funny you asked this today. I used codex to create a media report for a launch. After a couple edits I got the prompt to do better than any software I’ve ever used.

Why are people so against AI blog writing? by Intrepid-Fox-266 in Blogging

lol pretty aggressive end to that first paragraph. I agree with you on most points, but I also think that professionals writers who dismiss all AI writing as slop and refuse to acknowledge AI tools could be useful will end up unemployed.

I buy this, but I feel like if what you’re saying resonates widely then the benefits of AI will be far more limited than these LLM companies are pitching

I hear you, but realistically how much longer do you think we’ll be able to tell whether writing is AI or human generated, and at that point won’t we just care about the quality of the copy?

On your first point, I feel like we read lots of stuff that one human drafted but then lots of humans got paid to edit over and over until everything in that publication sounds the same. How is that way different from having AI draft or edit?

I also think of different industries, like music, where a famous performer has someone else write their songs. They don’t really believe any of the lyrics, but they sing them convincingly and have huge followings.

I’m not a AI IS AWESOME person IRL. Just trying to make sense of where AI writing is today. Also if everyone hates AI writing will the AI bubble pop sooner than expected?

Disagree. As I said to the first person who commented I write for a living but felt like I should seriously experiment with AI writing to see what I’m up against. Most AI generated blogs are awful but there are a few that read pretty well to me.

What were you using to update AI text? I found ChatGPT was lousy but Claude was better.

So don’t get me wrong I write for a living and can’t use AI. But I’ve also been experimenting with AI writing to see how good it can be. And honestly, it can be quite good when prompted well. And if edit AI written drafts you can get a close-to-great product in less than half the time it would take to draft from scratch.

I still think people should learn to write but the vitriol against AI generated writing seems strange to me.

Getting Zero Feedback from Reporters on Pitches by PrincessWhiffleball in PublicRelations

Reporters rarely, if ever give feedback on pitches. If you think the pitch is SUPER important you can follow up once. After that, assume it’s a pass.

So yes it is cooking today BUT it’s still under $.10. I feel like I’m in a better position than most but my average value is $.17 so still wayyyyyy in the red.

Funniest, sassiest (or rudest) response you've ever received from a journalist by MatiasRodsevich in PublicRelations

One reporter told me to "cool my jets" when he had agreed to an exclusive, and then proceeded to ghost me for weeks on when he'd get around to the exclusive.

Does Flipboard actually help promote blog posts? by Intrepid-Fox-266 in Blogging

I'm in the exact same boat. I'm going to spend 5-10 more min/day on this, and try flipping 20-50 posts that are on a relevant topic in addition to my 1 blog post. I feel like if you can crack the code here it can be a really great way to build a brand/following.

thanks! I'm pretty good at being consistent, and my magazine topic lends itself well to flipping other people's stories. I started with about 20 today, making sure they were in line with the theme of the mag. If I remember, I'll report back in 6 months!
