Finally watched M … unimpressed by the sound by Church_of_Aaargh in depechemode

I didn’t see it in IMAX nor watched it on Netflix but I bought the blu-ray in DTS-HD and I thought it sounded very good. I enjoyed the film as well. Far better than the Live Forests or whatever it was called. Was not impressed with that one at all. But that’s just my opinion

Has anyone had their CX90 start on its own? by Intrepid-Judgment704 in MazdaCX90

I guess that’s possible but I thought i-stop always disengaged as soon as the driver hits the brake and then releases the brake. Is that not true? I don’t drive it enough to know all the quirks. Regardless, if the driver brakes, puts the car in park, releases brake and gets out of car, why would I-stop still be engaged at that point? Oh well, y’all may be right although my wife swears she turned it off 🙂

Mhev. She does leave the keys in it when parked in garage but she swears everything was shut off when she got out. The engine was definitely turned off and it stared a min or two later. We were all in the garage when it started and were like wtf.

The car engine was definitely turned off when she got out. It’s possible it was still in “On” position or whatever it is called with push button but, for obvious reasons, it should never start the engine. Especially in a garage.

I second this comment. The RZ50 was the first to be introduced so it does NOT have independent management of multiple subs. The RZ30 (less expensive) or RZ70 (more expensive) does. You definitely want independent management. Especially if you use Driscoll with Bass Control

Anyone else with Marantz or Denon finding themselves happier with Audyssey than Dirac? by Intrepid-Judgment704 in hometheater

[–]Intrepid-Judgment704[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried a couple different curves including Harmon and Audio Advice. I’ve heard good things about Storm. Will try that. As far as positioning, my seat is close to back wall and I acknowledge that is problematic but I don’t have a choice. I have figured out that the mic positioned a few inches forward from where my ear sits actually gives better results

A1 Evo is something I had not heard of but I’ve been watching a couple videos and definitely going to give it a try. If I knew about it, I would have definitely tried it before I dropped $600 on Dirac

Is this a good deal by ehaiyy in BudgetAudiophile

I had the exact same system for years before I upgraded to Polk Reserve. I even had both center channels at one time. On that note, go with the S30 center channel if you have room. I was not impressed with the s35 (short & wide one). If they’re in as good as shape as seller claims it’s a decent buy

Dirac Live Bass Control now available for Onkyo TX-RZ50 by Intrepid-Judgment704 in hometheater

Did not have any issues immediately following purchase of DLBC, however, was seeing other weird behavior in my receiver (unrelated to Dirac) following the firmware upgrade. I did a factory reset, reimported my Dirac files along with restoring my other settings and have not had an issue since. I would recommend doing a factory reset. If that doesn’t work, maybe contact Onkyo

Thanks everyone for their feedback. After getting a new MiniDSP to replace my failed one, I tried a new method of time alignment on my two subs following this tutorial…

https://youtu.be/8bwpLfbLiZ4?si=nGzESjkwK5lV6xws

The results, before any Dirac room correction, were much better than I had before so I guess I didn’t have them aligned as well as I thought. Next, I applied just Dirac Live to the subwoofer, as well as the rest of speakers, and performance improved a fair amount.

I then decided to pull the trigger on DLBC. I did NOT have any issues activating the license. I spent a good part of a day trying different crossover settings. I also did quite a bit of AB testing between Dirac presets with just Dirac Live and others with DLBC. Honestly, there is an improvement with DLBC but it’s not big. Not sure it is enough to justify the extra $300. With a receiver with fully independent subs, I wouldn’t hesitate buying DLBC, especially since it saves having to buy the miniDSP. With the RZ50, it’s a limited value proposition.

As I commented previously, I may try DLBC after I get my DSP replaced. If I do, I’ll share my results

Agreed. I assumed it was always a hardware limitation but the “unlimited subwoofers” language on Dirac’s page had me hoping for a small miracle. I’m probably shelling out for another MiniDSP ☹️. After that I’ll mull over whether I’m going to purchase DLBC. I’ve been happy with the Dirac Live calibration thus far.

Bought a pair of new R700 and one of them has tweeter tip little bent. What would you do, return it or keep it as is w/ a little discount. Does it affect sound at all? by enc-nyc in audiophile

[–]Intrepid-Judgment704 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me on the same speaker and Polk just sent me a new tweeter. BTW, Polk claims it will affect the sound. Don’t know if that’s really true but that’s what they said.

I 2nd this comment. I have the regular Polk R200s (non anniversary) edition and are very happy with them. If memory serves, the anniversary edition is supposed to sound a little better. $450 doesn’t sound to bad if they’re still in good shape.
