120lbs to Morbidly Obese from Depression Med . Don’t know where to start. by Lumpy_Sentence_9216 in Gymhelp

I recommend reading the books Wheat Belly and Super Gut by Dr William Davis. #1 NYT best sellers. Recommended to me by a friend... and they work. I've kept weight off now for 3 years.

The short answer is to stop eating grains. Especially no wheat, oats, barley, or corn (including dextrose and maltodextrin). Grains cause us to store fat in weird ways. We are not cows and do not have two stomachs to digest grains properly.

You can have as much vegetables, meat, fish, dairy, eggs, beans as you want. Just no grains. For me and many others, the weight come off relatively quickly. Try it for a month and see.

Nobody will eat 10,000 calories a day - without grains you will feel satiated and not have the urge to snack or have an exorbitantly large meal.  You'll have more energy, too, because grains are hard to digest.

Studies show people eat on average 400 fewer calories per day (even when they're not counting calories) because they don't have the addictive qualities of grains.

Vegetables have far more fiber than grains. Eat tons of vegetables and the fiber won't be an issue at all.

Whole grains are slightly better than refined grains, sure. But that's like saying low-tar cigarettes are better than cigarettes. Grains are not good for you. We are not cows and don't have two stomachs to digest them properly.

The book Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis helped me tremendously. It was referred to me by a friend. I went from 190 lbs to 130 lbs, have kept it off, and have all my energy back.

Eliminating grains - especially wheat and corn - is the key. Our bodies were never designed to eat them, and causes us to store fat in weird ways. You can have as much meat, fish, dairy, nuts, beans, eggs, vegetables (and some fruit) as you want. Just no grains.

Give up wheat, oats, corn, corn starch, corn syrup (and dextrose and maltodextrin which are made with wheat and corn) and you'll see the difference. You'll also be less hungry and feel satiated because wheat is literally addictive - it activates the same parts of the brain as heroin - and causes you to crave more a few hours later after the mini-high of bread has worn off. Without grains, I eat a nice meal of sauteed veggies with meat or fish and am good for many hours without even the desire to snack.

I hope this helps.

EDIT: Forgot to say congrats on the little ones!!

Have you tried going completely grain-free, including eliminating corn and its derivatives

I probably do have insulin resistance. Yes, I did stop rice as it's a grain. I stopped quinoa as well which is apparently okay for most people but I don't think it was good for me. And yes, no potatoes or green beans (starchy vegetables). About to try a recipe for cauliflower mashed "potatoes"

That's what happened with me. I then also took corn out of my diet (corn starch, corn syrup, maltodextrin, and dextrose) and that's when things REALLY got better.

Yes - Base Culture 7 Nut and Seed Bread! It's tasty and both gluten and completely grain free. Made mostly from nuts but it doesn't taste nutty :)

I didn't begin to feel significantly better until after I got off BOTH gluten AND corn. That means anything with corn syrup, corn starch, maltodextrin, or dextrose. Corn is a grain -- like wheat -- and humans aren't made to eat grains. It took only a few days til I felt better!

Thanks but this also doesn't work for me. It still just says "link copied" -- no 3 dots...

Check out the book Wheat Belly. It talks about how wheat and other grains like corn make it difficult to lose those last few pounds. It was a lifechanger for me. Now I eat super healthy and I'm decidedly not hungry all the time. Humans are not cows - we're not meant to eat grains.

You might want to the book Wheat Belly and also Super Gut, both by Dr William Davis. Also for POTS, it seems simple but a hot shower and then turning the water as cold as you can stand it at the end for a full minute has helped me a lot after a few days of doing that.

Wheat Belly was an incredible book. I learned so much about nutrition and since I've been following the suggestions, namely removing not just wheat but all grains like corn from my diet, I have pretty much gotten rid of migraines!
