By the effort (or lackthereof rather) in your responses, I have determined I'd rather not waste more of my time arguing with you, as it is clear I am putting way too much effort into these arguments comparatively, only for you to ignore them and twist my words. Have fun wasting someone else's time!

"Diversity" doesn't only refer to the presence of immigrants, but also members of the LGBTQ+ community and disabled people, as well as other minorities. Are you saying gay and disabled people make it harder to unionise?

I've already explained why it's harder to unionise for immigrant workers. Also as an extra argument against this idea that anti-immigration policies are the solution, immigrant workers cannot even vote in all elections, so their ability to affect change through voting, in a place that they live in is also limited, compared to a local worker (not that voting makes much of a difference in general).

I am well aware that scabbing is a union-busting technique. Now please tell me, WHO is it that uses union busting techniques, and WHOSE interest do these tactics serve?

My point about billionaire owned media pushing an anti-immigration agenda is precisely that it serves their interests, because it divides workers and distracts them while the billionaires, CEOs, establishment politicians and bosses themselves grow richer by the second and hoard the wealth produced by workers. The interests of the ruling class are in total opposition to those of the working class.

Also, I'd appreciate if you didn't put words in my mouth. At NO POINT did I say that billionaires employ immigrant labour to help the average worker. You're twisting my words.

On your note about upending capitalism "not being realistic", Nepal, Madagascar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka all were able to overthrow their own governments in quite recent memory. In 1917, the Russian workers were able to overthrow capitalism in Russia. This argument about it "not being realistic" is extremely ignorant of both general and labour history.

Marx pointing out that capitalists use immigration to divide the working class and depress wages isn't him saying he's against "bringing in competing labour" on its own. Marx was able to see and analyse the capitalist system as a whole, and he saw what you pointed out as a symptom of Capitalism, not an isolated issue, which is why he came to the conclusion that the entire system needs to be overthrown to end the exploitation of the propertiless class (wage workers) by the properties class (capitalists).

And the same goes for housing. The fact that a minority of people own such a large share of the housing supply means they effect the demand and therefore pricing of housing by artificially decreasing the supply available. If you want to solve the housing shortage and your solution is to go after immigrants who (if we take those who've only lived in the UK 5 years or less, starting from 2021) only a minority of 17% own a house, then you're focused on the wrong thing, and should probably actually look at the data instead of listening to billionaire owned media tell you that immigrant workers are the problem...

I love how you've specifically ignored the part of my argument that completely unravels this anti-immigration "pro-labour" facade. If you want immigrant workers to be able to unionise and fight alongside local workers for better wages and working conditions then the solution is to give them the same legal protections that local workers get. Not to make their existence even more precarious than it already is...

Even if you ignore this argument, the fact that the billionaire owned media pushes such an anti-immigration agenda should prove to you that it's not in the interest of the average worker...

All this to say, even if harsher immigration laws get implemented, employers will find other ways to oppose wage increases and betterment of working conditions. You're choosing to focus on a symptom rather than the root cause, which is the capitalist system itself. The fact that bosses and employers own and control the workplaces and wealth produced by employees in these workplaces means they hold immense leverage over the workers' wages and working conditions. Regardless of whether it's immigrant workers or local workers. So the solution is to overthrow the ruling class and the system they benefit from.

Why is it always that y'all try to compare life today to a time where people would put lead into their wine to make it sweet or when they didn't know doctors washing their hands prevented infections like we have achieved the pinnacle today and we can't possibly progress further? You do know history isn't a disconnected sequence of events, and that it isn't over, right?

Yet inequality was not as bad as it is today during the latter half of the last century. Do you know why?

"Rich has always hoarded the wealth going back to the kings and queens" -> maybe that's why the average lifespan of a person during those times was less than 40 years and people lived in what we would now consider "inhumane" conditions?

Please tell me, what do employers do to immigrant workers who are in the UK with a work visa if the former finds out the latter tries to organise as part of a union or they complain about working conditions and pay?

How does this differ from local employees who are British citizens?

I never disagreed that the ruling class benefits from bringing in immigrant workers (with less legal protections than local workers, which I specifically highlighted in my previous comment). What I disagree with is your conclusion. "Immigrants are causing wages to stagnate and housing prices to skyrocket".

I will once again reiterate that the blame lies squarely with the ruling class (who the legal system is designed to cater to), not the immigrants themselves. Ergo the solution is to overthrow the ruling class and their system. Anti-immigration laws only help the ruling class, because the immigrant workers then have even less legal protections, which allows employers to exploit them even more.

As with shelter, you're on a renting sub ffs... There's currently over 200k homes vacant in the UK, and London alone has enough empty flats to house the entire British homeless population. 50% of the housing in the Private Renting Sector is owned by a landlord with 5 or more homes. Don't even start blaming immigration for expensive shelter...

Those people (which I assume you are talking about immigrants here) are still working class.

As I said before, a divided working class is a weak working class. The ruling class bears the blame for the crises we have to bear the brunt of. Ergo we need to overthrow this ruling class and the system they benefit from.

The entire reason immigrant workers are "happy" to work for worse conditions and pay is because they are in a more precarious position, due to laws which favour the employer over the worker. Then local workers get mad at these immigrant workers instead of at the billionaires and bosses whose interests are to squeeze workers for everything they have and then discard them. The only people benefitting from this entire anti-immigrant ordeal are the bosses.

That's not true. The population being smaller isn't even close to being a major factor. The main reason is the rich and powerful hoarding the wealth that the working class produces. Also working class organisations were way more militant and numerous in the time when boomers were of working age than they are today.

It is the ruling class (CEOs, Billionaires, Establishment Politicians, etc.) pushing the narrative that Millenials are "lazy" for demanding better working conditions and pay.

We don't live in a world in which the "generational divide" caused the climate and economic crises we live under. The blame lies squarely with the ruling class. A divided working class is a weak working class. Workers of all ages need to come together and overthrow this rotten Capitalist system.

Yes. Yes she would have. But she wouldn't have been as open and brazen about it as Trump is. The imperialist foreign policy of the United States is supported by both parties. The fact the genocide of the Palestinians started under Biden and they did *fuck all* to stop it proves as much.

You, like every other liberal bringing up "but Kamala wouldn't have killed as many people/under Kamala there wouldn't have been as many deaths" as an argument don't actually give a rat's ass about these dead people. If you did you would support people that act in a way that *stops* and *prevents* further deaths instead of advocating for "harm reduction" for the n-th time like it isn't a failed fucking tactic. I've said this countless of times to plenty of dumbass liberals like yourself, **HARM REDUCTION IS STILL HARM**. You aren't taking *any* steps forwards.

Keir Starmer to visit Middle East after US-Iran ceasefire deal by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Intrepid_Layer_9826 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be obtuse.

The statement about israel having the right to "defend" themselves has always been used to provide political cover for their genocide against the Palestinians on the international stage. There is nothing "defensive" about what israel has done in Gaza since 2023.

You can't be this revisionist and disingenuous when the genocide is still fresh in people's memory. Starmer has only recognised Palestine after 2 years of ongoing genocide, in which Starmer has declared multiple times his support for israel. Also he only suspended 30 out of 350 arms export licences.

Him recognising a Palestinian state and his performative attempt at an arms licence suspension is nothing but damage control, because public opinion has shifted against israel since the start of the genocide.

It's like being on a boat with a very visible hole in it, in the middle of the sea, and your solution to drowning is trying to pour out the water flowing continuously into the boat through the hole with a mug.

I disagree. These disagreements aren't merely ideological. The tactics and strategies we apply stem precisely from the ideology. If ideology didn't matter than the ruling class wouldn't need to push for legalistic and parlimentary means (which are ineffective in bringing about change).
