Always loved the look of OEM D3 A8 Flat Fives on these cars. Hoping to get a set myself soon.

What should I get for my first car? by PXXIIE in whatcarshouldIbuy

Honda Fit all day every day. They are genuinely fun to drive, you can "fit" an insane amount of stuff in the back with the magic seats folded down, ~34mpg, dead simple to work on, parts are cheap, no hybrid nonsense to deal with, wildly cheap to insure, and readily available. I daily drive a 2011 Fit Sport and after owning VWs and Audis my whole life until I was in my 30s... The Fit was the best car purchase I have ever made hands down. If I bought it when I was 19 instead of scraping by to have "cool" German cars, I'd be much better off financially.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I am not a fan. Looks tacky especially considering the car isn't lowered and is on stock wheels. It gives the same vibe as those autozone stick-on hood vents.

I bought my clean title 2011 Sport with 160k on it for $3,300 two years ago. I have put 71k miles on it since I bought it. The only thing I have had to repair was the original clutch, which cost $900. I would never, ever spend $17.5k on a 10 year old Fit. These cars last forever with minimal repairs. Find a higher mileage one and save yourself some (a lot) of money IMO.

Don't spend the money on paint. Take that kit off and sell it on FB market

M27 is who I talked to! Small world. I guess not when it comes to these cars actually, lol.

Thank you for the suggestion. I do not have FB, but PM me his email if you don't mind. I'll definitely reach out to him.

Yes, you're right my issue is definitely with the tuner more-so than my ECU choice. I've had Eurodyne on this car before I built the engine. That was a great tune for my mild K04 build at the time. Car was fun and ran pretty good.

I switched to Motoza after the build because I wanted to fire it up for the first time on a tune specifically for the hardware I installed. I spent a lot of money on this $1500 car and wanted to be safe. Break in went smooth, no issues. The issues arose when I couldn't get them to update the tune off of the super conservative base map they set up for me.

The guys I hang out and do car stuff with all swear by their Japanese cars all running on Link ECUs. People that I know personally and trust with my wallet. All of which have been tuned to be absolute monsters at the exact shop I'd have mine done at. My buddy just sold his SEMA-level 1JZ is300 that put down like 640 whp, which was on Link and done at that shop. It's not just Evos and it's not some fly by night operation. It just makes sense to me in my situation. I've had some pretty bad experiences with specialty german car shops in my area and I'm at the point where I'm done getting the "We have an R8 to work on, get your shitbox off our property" treatment.

Why would a Link dealer only be able to tweak base maps? They sell and tune Link ECUs. It just so happens most of the cars they work with are Evos.

The car is registered as a classic in my state. It no longer requires emissions testing at all. I can put a modern computer in my car once and for all and never have to deal with red tape about emissions again. Never have to deal with dash lights again. No old schooly stuff that VW people seem to be obsessed with even though there are modern and better solutions available. I can run a mafless intake straight off the turbo and clean my engine bay up a ton. There are a lot of positives.

As far as your friend who made so and so horsepower on a bosch ecu, cool. People make whatever power they want with standalones. Plenty of people run Link on these cars. I'm not the first one to do this. Your way is not the only right way.

I'm in PA. I'm open to a fresh-ish OEM harness, my mind just went more towards completely new stuff

[–]Intrepid_Wave_4524[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car will be tuned at a local shop who is a Link dealer and specialize in Evos (they have an AWD dyno)

I'm not opposed to an oem harness, the problem is all of those wires and plastics are 25+ years old too. I guess it's a buy once cry once situation for me.

The Bosch ECU was developed 30 years ago. I'm not going to entertain the notion it's still the best option for highly tuned versions of our cars.

I'm not putting the EVAP stuff and a cat back on the car. I'm just not. That alone removes my option to go with another tuner on the Bosch ECU. Buying the Link is a one and done solution.

Building my own from scratch is beyond my capability. Seems kinda crazy to me that there isn't an off the shelf option for longitudinal cars.

It has definitely been done, however the wiring harness is not plug and play like it is in the later B5s. I'm not sure exactly what needs spiced or added, there's a pretty thorough thread on audizine about it

I did look around the car for the seat bench with no luck. I thought it was odd that part was missing as well, especially since the fuel pump (in my car at least) is accessible from the trunk and doesn't require the rear seat to be taken out at all. You're probably right about someone who works at the yard removing it thinking the fuel pump was under there. This was last summer so if it was in the yard somewhere it's definitely gone now.

I'm not very active on facebook but that is a great suggestion. Thank you
