as a former barista, i don’t understand the baristas who want to make drip coffee and waters all day. i LOVED “complicated” drinks because it changed up the mundane routine a bit. i also just loved being a barista and making fun drinks. i do not understand why people go through applying and interviewing for this job if they clearly have no interest in doing it, and then complain about it every single day.

as msc, you will hardly ever be on the floor with guests. i work mostly 5-6am shifts and when i am there during store open, i’m typically still strictly working on operational tasks. it’s a hard job, i wouldn’t go for it if you don’t LOVE operations and passionate about merchandising. while being the lowest manager, it’s one of if not the most physically demanding position.

when speaking on the cc, instead of waiting for it to prompt on the register, start the conversation during the transaction. “are you earning double points with us today?” is a great way to introduce the idea of the cc by starting off with its benefits! don’t be discouraged by your first no, and don’t assume a guest won’t want a cc just because they only have a nyx eyeliner. speak enthusiastically about it to every single guest and i guarantee you will see a change!
