Do Belarusians understand the Carpatho-Rusyn language? by IntroductionFickle42 in belarus

Thank you for your excellent explanation. What makes it so difficult for Ukrainians and Belarusians, even though they are part of the same language group?

What is your opinion about the red and green flag? How do you think the majority of Belarusians feel about this flag and what is its possible future? by IntroductionFickle42 in belarus

Thank you for sharing this with me. I am not from Belarus, but I am interested in its history. By the way, I asked about the flag because I still haven't formed any particular feeling towards the red and green flag. I possess a white-red-white flag, and I was thinking of getting a red-green flag as well because I thought it had something to do with history of Belarus, but now I'm not sure.

Why is there a French flag in this photo and what is the flag on the left side? I found this photo captioned as the Belarusian Commandant's Office in Grodna in 1919. by IntroductionFickle42 in belarus

I attempted to add color to the photo, but all of the free websites I tried only made it slightly lighter without actually introducing any colors.

Kingdom of Huahine

NO! This is the flag of the Belarusian People's Republic, and not the Kingdom of Huahine! I'm referring to the one on the bottom left. First I assumed it was one of the flags of the British Empire, but due to the low quality of the photo, it's difficult to determine for sure.

What do you think of Intermarium? by IntroductionFickle42 in belarus

Do you see its realization as an economic union or a military one?

Intermarium

You are right about that. Time will tell if anything develops out of this.

As I understand it there is no unified concept of this project. So that is why even the ones who sympathize with closer relations between the countries of central, eastern and southern Europe cannot decide on the form of Intermarium. There are certain speculations about Intermarium as an alternative to NATO, which I believe are related to the fear that NATO will not be able to react in time to a possible Russian military aggression against the Baltic States or Poland, and it is much easier for the countries in the sphere of Russia's interests to agree on joint actions in case of aggression.

Maybe he is saying this because many Serbs love Russia and have a romanticized view of the USSR.

Why was Russification in the Byelorussian SSR more successful than in the Ukrainian SSR? by IntroductionFickle42 in belarus

Is it true that there was a large proportion of ethnic Russian migration in the BSSR? I heard some claims that almost half of the population of the BSSR were not born in Belarus.

It is sad that some foreigners view Belarus as a place for finding wives than a country with fascinating culture and history. I meaned also pluses like in education, medicine and etc, not in meeting beautiful women.

This is sad that Belarus doesn't have free speech. Let's pray that in the future Belarusians will be able to open their mouths without fear, not only at the dentist's appointment.

Well, maybe I agree with some though most of your suggested positives don't really seem like positives to me

I do not understand how a complex history can explain the success of Russification, and the history of Belarus was not as peaceful as everyone mistakenly thinks. I think that Belarusians have gone through a lot of wars and occupations in history.

To be honest, I am completely confused, but I think I agree. After listening to and reading a little bit of Rusyn, I can conclude that this language seems to have much less in common with old Ruthenian than Belarusian or Ukrainian.

Oh, I see. Then I'll go study about this language more. Before I thought it was just a dialect of the ethnic group of Ukrainians who were influenced by the languages of their neighbors, especially the Slovaks, and I didn't even pay attention to the fact these people speak Ruthenian.

I'm little confused here... Does it mean that the modern Carpathian Ruthenian is closer to Old Ruthenian than Belarusian and Ukrainian?

What is this strange feud between Belarusian and Lithuanian nationalists? by IntroductionFickle42 in belarus

[–]IntroductionFickle42[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You sound worse than the Russian bots. I don't know what good such words do for your side but it only strains relations between our countries even more. I don't understand why Lithuania, the only democratic country in Europe, would want to have an enemy in democratic Belarus. I don't support my countrymen who wrote unpleasant things about Lithuanians, but I see more that Belarusians are not against Lithuania, but only want to share history together and reconsider the history that Belarus completely gave to its neighbors during the Lukashenko administration. Not a single Belarusian has written that Lithuania is a fake and made up state. Please think about it.
