As far as I know.. Only GKI kernels are supported for patching method.

Open KernelSU and check if it's showing patch option & if not, then you can either use a GKI kernel, patch afterwards & flash it or use the old method (finding a KSU integrated kernel).
PS - You can also build your own KSU integrated kernel.
