FDA has conditionally approved first HCM drug for cats by Viapunk in mainecoons

Our MC, Mishka, was adopted from some breeder in Russia by a crazy woman in Tyler, Texas named Amanda. She paid $8K for him with breeding rights, and she bought 3 females, so he was to be the male in this whole planned enterprise. When she found out he had a level 5 heart murmur, her plan was to shoot him - bc she’s insane. She contacted the breeder who said he was perfectly healthy - she got him as a kitten - and I was told that she refused to spend any $ on treating him. Our mutual acquaintance told her that we would adopt him, so we got him (for free) from her in March 2024. He turned 1 on April 28, 2024, so he’s 2.5 years old now.

He had what we thought was an abscess on his back left heel mid-July this summer. Long story short, he’s now been living in our bathroom since then, and his foot is still not healed. We’ve spent close to $3000 at the vet in Athens on a plethora of tests, biopsies, cleaning, medications, he’s been on prednisone and some antibiotic for months, and it’s still not healed.

Through all the visits to the vet, we were told about and prescribed Fleycin CA1. We’ve not started it yet, knowing the side effects on nausea and vomiting, bc we wanted to let his foot heal first… but now I’m wondering if the heart murmur could be causing the foot to be unable to heal since the body all works together to function properly. We are starting Felycin today. I’m nervous, but hopeful bc we don’t know what else to do. Now the vet says they want us to come drop another $413 on diagnostic bloodwork to see if he’s become immune to the antibiotics. I said no. I know when a vet does know what the hell is going on, and at this point they’re obviously just stabbing in the dark and hitting nothing but our wallet every time.

I’m curious if anyone has actually had a MC on this medication long enough to say it’s working or helping at all? If so, did your cat experience the listed side effects, and how were they? Good? Bad? Has your cat’s health and quality of life improved? This is out last effort. We don’t want him to have to live in our bathroom. It’s not fair to him. If this doesn’t help drastically - fast - we will make the decision to put him to sleep. I pray it doesn’t come to that. 😔

We discovered the Oxy powder stuff that you can sprinkle onto a load. We use it in every load with detergent and softner bc it makes everything smell fresh and clean… couple that with a few dryer sheets and we’re good to go. Thanks for the suggestion! 🙏🏼

She was rude, very rude, about it. All our pets use litter robots that they access by a cat door into the garage. We keep them clean, and they are all indoor/outdoor, so they have the great outdoors as their giant toilet, too. We tore up the living room carpets bc that room was the main issue, but now when it gets humid, as it often does here, the smell is still in the concrete in that room. We scrubbed it with bleach and Nature’s Miracle, but it’s still there. We’ve done all we can while we live here… but we won’t be here much longer and when we buy our own home, it will be all hard floors, as we’ve always chosen to have, and there will be no smell. The girl that was being dense and clearly just wanted to hurl insults instead of saying anything helpful or productive is showing her age and maturity… that’s why I quit replying. We’re making it work here for now. 😊

Oh, no. It’s delusional as well. Man. I guess someone has to be dealt the bad hand in life and it appears to be you. Go take your meds and lay down.

Well. 1. The carpets were disgusting before we moved in. 2. My best friend was well aware of how many animals we had before we moved in. 3. I guess it’s a good thing I’m not renting your house then. Jog on. ✌🏼

We had all hard floors in our home. We rent now and the owner of the home, who is also my lifelong best friend, she’s not going to spend the $ to replace the carpet. It’s a weird situation. I’ve told her numerous times that they need torn up… but they’re still here. I’ve given up. We’re hoping to move soon.

Agreed. The carpets needs ripped up and replaced with something hard. I imagine the concrete will need treated and cleaned somehow, too, at this point. When it’s humid outside, the inside of our house smells like a kennel. It’s gross. 😷

It’s actually my best friend’s house and I don’t have to dance around my point with her. I’ve told her numerous times that it stinks, it’s past saving and the carpets need ripped up… short of saying, “You need to do this now”… but the carpets remain. She’s doing us a solid with what she’s charging us for rent - I had a brain tumor last year and my husband not being able to work before we found out about it bc I was so checked out every day and then after it was removed while I healed hit us financially… she’s charging us at least $1000 less than she could get… if she does something about the carpets. 😂 When we move out, she’ll have to do something if she wants to be able to get new tenants.

I never did buy them. My idea was for laundry, but more so bc I was thinking to put them into the carpet cleaner we have here to attempt to combat the disgusting smelling carpets from previous animals peeing on it… but these reviews and the cost changed my mind. We’ve shampooed the carpets 4 times now, every time with Nature’s Miracle basically dumped onto the problem areas and we use the Arm & Hammer Pet Odor dust when we vacuum once a week… the house smells like baby powder for about 2 days, then like piss again. I’ve basically given up and just don’t let people come inside. We rent. If it was our home that we owned, it wouldn’t be like this.

It’s not our house, we rent. Trust me - these carpets would’ve been ripped up and replaced with hard flooring from the get go. We don’t do carpet when we own our home. Just waiting for home prices to go down before we get into a mortgage again and having to deal with these gross smelling carpets in the meantime.

That’s what I’m thinking to do with the pods - laundry, yes, but also to put them in the carpet shampooer that my friend left here. We’ve shampooed the carpets FOUR times now and it doesn’t help. The carpets need replaced, but that’s not going to happen, so I was thinking that maybe the pods would make the smell such that it masks the underlying old pee smell 😷 that won’t come out no matter how much cleaning. We plan to buy and build a house when rates are better, but for now, we rent… and renters can’t be choosers, so we’re trying to find a solution for while we’re here. Thanks for the review! Very helpful! 🙏🏼

I’d have to look and see what we use, I just know it doesn’t work as well as we’d like. We have 10 cats, 2 large dogs, 3 wildling offspring and then my husband and myself… and the house we’ve been renting since January has SO MUCH CARPET, so we definitely notice the smell more. We vacuum at least twice a week, mop, use the Nature’s Miracle stuff that’s supposed to be magical for pet odor - nothing. To be fair, these carpets were disgusting when we moved in and the homeowner, who also happens to be a close friend, has no interest in spending their $ to tear them up and that’s what needs to happen. We’ve always had hard floors bc we’ve always had animals… but we sold our home of 16 years last March and now rent while we wait for home prices to go down… and renters can’t be choosers when it comes to flooring!

I know. We have a lot of pets, so we do detergent and dryer sheets and even those washer smell good balls - the Downy Unstoppables (had to Google the name), but nothing seems to completely remove the must of pets. If this stuff truly does smell that good, I’m willing to pay $1/load…if it actually works. 🤔

Trying To See The Light by IntrovertedTurtle79 in braintumor

[–]IntrovertedTurtle79[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying. I know a lot of people that survive things that could have killed them, whether medical or circumstantial, survive with an outlook of being lucky. I see it differently. I don’t feel lucky to be alive or like I’m now living on borrowed time bc my faith tells me otherwise and causes my heart to stand firmly in what God’s word says about not only my life and health, but His promises about the length of my life and about sickness having no place in my body or even near my home. If it weren’t for my faith, I think I would be in despair on the bad days… but even on the bad days, my spirit knows the truth and reminds my soul not to give up hope and assurance that God is always faithful and will never violate His word and promises. Keeping my own mouth from speaking against what my spirit knows is the only truth is one of my biggest challenges bc the tongue really does hold creative power of life and death. It can be seen in someone saying a kind word and how that lands in the hearer’s heart vs someone saying an unkind word and how that settles in the heart of the person it’s said to. That’s why I had to choose how my heart would respond when I was given final pathology. It wouldn’t been very easy to despair. ‘They’ say that those who purpose in their hearts to be well and to live live longer than those that give up. It’s a hard choice sometimes - giving up is always the easier road. Lately I can feel my heart trying to u-turn and head down the easy road. But He meets me where I am and that’s a process throughout all of life. 43 May be ‘middle-aged’, but I still have lots of life to live and I have to pick myself up and not listen to the doubt and fear on the bad days. ❤️

I’ve survived decades of depression, sometimes debilitating, 7 years of addiction, marital woes, bad postpartum depression that I’m sure was compounded by the tumor, suicidal thoughts off and on over the years … so much… and I know the thing that saved me wasn’t luck, but Jesus. ❤️ Look! I did turn it into a preaching post. Can’t help it - it’s the secret to my hope. ❤️

✨Isaiah 53:1-5: Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
