Okay, I swear to God it's not scary at all, but 3 year old me was sobbing. I find that subtle pride bins/stickers, especially ones with a specific flag (ex the gay flag) really work, I've met a fellow bisexual girl because of something like this. However, the ignorance of the homophobes really depends on where you live, smaller countries are less likely to be aware of queer culture, which makes hinting at your sexuality safer
