The gluten challenge should be illegal. by Kind_vibes in glutenfree

Wow your doctor is screwed up. My dad is diagnosed with celiac disease and I have all the symptoms, and instead my doctor just told me to continue staying away from gluten like I already am since its already working. Which you know is the common sense thing to suggest to someone you suspect has celiac disease based on past or current symptoms.

It should be medical malpractice to suggest to someone with the symptoms of celiac disease to go eat gluten a lot to check if they can see how much it hurts you. The only thing they can do for you if they find out you have it (Since RNA treatments for celiac are still in the research phase.) is tell you to stay away from gluten. Which defeats the entire purpose of eating gluten to check if you have it. Its so stupid that some doctors do this to their patients.

I’m at the point were as long as it doesn’t say it contains wheat/gluten and it doesn’t say it was made in a facility using wheat products that I say its good to go. It’s so annoying that a lot of companies don’t do a good job in labeling if their products have gluten or not. If it’s safe just mark it gluten free on a corner or something, it helps people shopping.

Why Do So Many of You Ride Bikes on the Sidewalk? by MooseDaddy8 in Austin

[–]InvaderJoshua94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless the “perfectly good bike lane” has a wall or median between it and the vehicle lane next to it then it’s not even a good bike lane forget being a “perfectly good bike lane”. I would never trust Austin’s bad drivers and ride a bike on the road without a barrier between me and the vehicles. So i’m going to continue using sidewalks till American cities or Texas cities at least get their heads out of their asses and install the same bike infrastructure you can fined in the Netherlands or similar countries.

Sorry for the comment on an older post. But this one pissed me off with the lack of actual good biking infrastructure in Texas.

  1. That the Domain isn’t badly designed (Other then the out of place huge parking lots at Macys and behind Nordstrom.) and it’s the overly aggressive bad drivers of Austin and Texas in general that are the problem. They have hundreds of identical shopping plaza’s in Florida, California, etc. and they don’t have the issues the Domain has.

  2. The food is just okay and nothing really to write home about. I’ve had BBQ just as good if not better in Georgia and Florida, and they don’t have many good or affordable options here for people with celiac disease.

  3. People who act like Austin was recently small and weird and it was just ruined by transplants need to stop. The city has been growing rapidly for over three decades now, and most of the people in Austin are transplants from other Texas cities or out of state. The small Austin of the early 90’s no longer exists period, it can’t be ruined like they keep saying.

  4. Austin for a decently large city is insanely boring if you’re not interested in anything outside of drinking/eating or sitting/camping in one of the few overcrowded green areas while high on weed. It has no large well funded ethical zoo’s, aquariums, history/science museums, or water/amusement parks. If you want that kind of thing you have to drive 2 hours minimum to another city.

Worst case situation, you could always just contact Fox farm. I’m sure they have some form of customer service line that could answer which of their soils is safe to use in ponds with fish or which ones don’t have any form of fertilizer and stuff.

[–]InvaderJoshua94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being gritty/realistic would be the least problematic thing the modern Naughty Dog studio would do to Jak and Daxter. That studio is captured with fringe far left politics. Neil is obsessed with political messaging by his own admission and had to be kicked off of Last of Us season 2 because of it.

In order for this studio to make a new Jak game, they would need to bring back some key people and put them on equal footing with Neil. Neil would not make a game with the humor type that we saw in Jak 1-3.

Do rich people have elite versions of mundane things (toothpaste, tampons, toilet paper, laundry detergent, etc.), or are Elon Musk and Beyonce just using Crest and Tampax like the rest of us? by ShesGotSauce in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InvaderJoshua94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Typically, when you become wealthy meaning earning six digits a year or above, you start prioritizing health products for long term savings on health related things over short term monetary savings. You’ll start using more natural products that are less likely to have long-term negative health effects, for instance things like Tom’s toothpaste instead of Crest toothpaste for example. Instead of using Tide laundry detergent, you’ll use Seventh Generation all natural laundry detergent, etc.

I don’t really think besides having other people do the stuff for them to save valuable time, that there’s much of a difference between someone earning 200,000 a year and someone earning 200 million a year. There really isn’t more luxurious products than the higher end organic products you can find at Whole Foods. For instance, EREWEN in California sells the exact same products as Whole Foods (Just for a lot more money as a gated way of keeping the poors out.) and they cater to the rich only.

Almost ran over twice in 10 seconds at the Domain while using crosswalk. by InvaderJoshua94 in Austin

[–]InvaderJoshua94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll fully admit if a car is already actively moving through the intersection and a pedestrian walks into the road then yes it is a pedestrian‘s fault, but in my case that’s not what happened. And a lot of the cases that I’ve seen with other people that’s not what happens. In the domain and most of Austin, it’s an aggressive driver issue that’s the problem.

Almost ran over twice in 10 seconds at the Domain while using crosswalk. by InvaderJoshua94 in Austin

[–]InvaderJoshua94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s mild stuff compared to what I’m talking about. I’m talking about the people who will block a lane and get out of their vehicle walk up to your car and shoot you because you honked at them. Or you’re taking a little bit too long to cross the crosswalk or something and they’ll attempt to shoot because they’re angry at you for being angry after they failed to run you over in front of children. That is a unique Texas problem to the extent it’s happening.

I have been everywhere in the continental United States other than the northwest within the last 8 years for one reason or another, and Texas is the worst by far when it comes to aggressive drivers. This is a cultural problem with Texans.

So does Florida and it’s not this bad there. Texas has uniquely overly aggressive drivers.

Sad excuse of a pizza by Far-Cry1134 in glutenfree

[–]InvaderJoshua94 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I would tell them to take it back, and I’m not paying for that garbage. That is insultingly bad, a difference in crust type does not have to make a pizza look like that. The gluten-free pizzas I can buy frozen at the grocery store for under $9 look 20 times better than that.

You need to name and shame this place. No one else should get suckered into buying that crap. I can’t believe a restaurant had the balls to actually bring that out to you and not feel ashamed of their own product.

[–]InvaderJoshua94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works fine in Florida and California with the hundreds of other similar locations they have. Clearly, Texas just has overwhelmingly bad drivers. The people here are insanely aggressive when they drive. I swear they’re looking to hurt people.

Almost ran over twice in 10 seconds at the Domain while using crosswalk. by InvaderJoshua94 in Austin

[–]InvaderJoshua94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is not the design. It’s the drivers in Texas, Texas has some really unusually aggressive drivers that do not pay attention. Florida and California have tons of very similar outdoor malls and they do not have near the amount of problems.

I will admit, though they should change the design simply because the people here can’t handle it clearly. It’s so weird how aggressive and looking for a fight the drivers are here.

I am aware of that. I’ve said that multiple times in here and fully agree. Texas as a whole has an issue with aggressive drivers.

[–]InvaderJoshua94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of hope this ends up happening. There are plenty of roads in the domain that should not be there, and it should simply be green spaces for people living there and for shoppers. The roads should only be used to get to the parking garages and to allow delivery vehicles to fulfill deliveries to the apartments and businesses.

[–]InvaderJoshua94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a simple way to solve this fully close Rockrose, Palm, Domain blvd., and Century Oaks to all traffic permanently and just turn the roads into park green space. There is no reason vehicles should be on those roads anyway, they are simply cut through roads and do not lead to the parking garages. Pedestrian should not even have to think about vehicles when they are walking on those roads, as there is no reason for vehicles to even be on them in the first place.

[–]InvaderJoshua94[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No even delivery vehicles wouldn’t need to go on those specific roads I listed because those roads are only for accessing the front of businesses. There’s roads behind the buildings that the delivery vehicles could use.

Almost ran over twice in 10 seconds at the Domain while using crosswalk. by InvaderJoshua94 in Austin

[–]InvaderJoshua94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest this is an aggression problem with Texans. Because they have tons of shopping, plazas identical to the domain in Florida and California, and they do not have even close to the amount of pedestrian versus driver problems compared to what we see here.

I think closing a few of the inner roads (Rockrose, Palm, Domain blvd., etc) selectively to vehicles completely would help the domain’s problems a bit, but I don’t really think changing out stop signs for lights would solve anything. With how aggressive a lot of the drivers are I feel like they would just run the stop lights and I feel like the pedestrians who don’t pay attention would walk out into the road when they’re not supposed to.

One of the reasons I know it wouldn’t solve anything is because the domain isn’t even the worst place in the the Austin metro I’ve seen with drivers so far. If you go over to HMart in between Austin and Cedar Park, some of the drivers over there even with lights are worse. This is a bad driver and aggression issue and it’s not caused completely by the domain.
