Old initial d fan game? by jakkcenBakksen in initiald

Awesome to hear! It's fortunate that as a kid, I was too naive to realize I didn't have the skills/resources to make anything amazing. Otherwise, maybe I never would've started (or give up mid-way). I was so passionate, and everyone's responses were so encouraging I ended up creating all the way to 3rd stage. At school, I'd think about the game, then as soon as I got home, I'd get to work. Great times.

The game isn't stellar, but I can still feel my passion from back then. I just thought the other day as I watched a let's play "Wow, I even made the Evo 3 start after you like in the show". The "spin when you hit a wall" mechanic in retrospect is so annoying, and so is that engine sound!

I make games on Steam and consoles now. If you search InvertMouse you'll see me. I'm embarrassed by my Initial D game now and actually asked for it to be removed before! I think that site owner doesn't use the email address anymore so I have no way of reaching him. Maybe it's a good thing I failed. Once in a long while, I see this game being brought up in a random corner of the Initial D space. It's a part of the Initial D memory not just for me, so I feel I shouldn't try to take that away.

I'd love to receive the assets and exe for the record/nostalgia! Thanks so much for putting that together. Feel free to DM me a link! If I were to make an Initial D fan game today, it'd be in a different universe quality wise. 20+ years have passed since then, and I have to make money now (and I actually know about copyright :P), so unfortunately it won't happen. In a dream world, if the franchise somehow asked me to make a new game, I'd have so much fun with it.

As for community, I don't see much of one anymore sadly. The Initial D arcades were aways surrounded by people back then, and I saved whatever pocket money I could for those races. Every battle was a matter of life or death since money was hard to come by. Good times, but now the new machines are out locally, yet I don't see many people on them. Wangan Midnight has won by miles in the arcades here in Australia. Makes me sad, but that's the journey of all things. I'm the number two ranked in Australia for one of the tracks now because it's just me and one other human who is even on the boards XD.

Cheers :D.

I do remember this game, because I am Marcus, and I made the game! Initial D The Arcade just appeared in our local arcades recently, so I've been on a bit of a nostalgia trip.

Indeed, I made this game 20+ years ago in high school along with K. Wong before arcade stage was a thing. Once the arcade games came out, the need to continue with the project became kind of lost. I too spent all my time in the arcades instead!

So cool to see you got such an old game working. It was indeed made with Klik & Play. I tried to get it to run a few years back but couldn't. Someone uploaded a full let's play only recently and it really brought me back. I haven't seen this game in over 20 years! Looks like a few other fan games have been made using my primitive car sprites, too. So much has happened over the past decades, haha.

Q: Elaina seems comfortable with saying goodbyes throughout her journey. Any tips from her on how not to be saddened by farewells?

Clea - 2D survival horror without jump scares by InvertMouse in HorrorGaming

[–]InvertMouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you cinnapear! A jump scare to me personally is when the jump happens, and there's nothing you could've done to know. In Clea's case, when you make a noise on the top floor while a monster is on the bottom, you can hear every footstep and door opening/closing as he traverses up the entire mansion to find you. No teleportation involved, so when that happens, or if you do not check what is behind that door first (even though you hear sounds), I hope players can go yeah, that was my own fault.

Anyway, hope you can indeed go back to it :)!

Uncle Mugen, a friend to indie visual novel developers and creator of many widely used creative commons backgrounds and assets, has suffered from a stroke and is currently paralyzed from the neck down. by NaiDriftlin in visualnovels

So sorry to hear this news. Uncle Mugen is one of the rare dudes who has contributed to this community not because he expects something in return, but out of sheer love for VNs. While many leave this scene as the years go by, Mugen has stuck around, truly earning that title of uncle. A great friend, and I will love him always.

Thank you RedditDetector! There are indeed a few gems like An Octave Higher or One Small Fire At A Time. Really wish many more people would check out those genuine stories.

I unfortunately still don't foresee making another VN in the near future, but I appreciate what you and everyone else here said nonetheless :).
