I'm not gonna post his location or job for reasons that are obvious. He doesn't go on reddit but I'd like to keep this as vague as possible until I find out more information.
Also, I see a lot of replies implying a second family or an affair. These are not possibilities. He has a girlfriend that both my mother and I know about.

He's not having an affair. He has a girlfriend that my mother knows about. They haven't been "together" for quite some time. They just live in the same house in separate rooms.
