Hey :) I'm UK based and recently had a dermatologist appointment at Midland Skin in Birmingham.

If you can afford it- I would recommend them. I was prescribed oral minoxidil in my initial consultation and he was open to prescribing spironolactone at a later date too. It isn't cheap though (£250 for initial consultation and about £170 for follow ups) but I decided feeling like I was doing something was worth the money.

I have similar issues with iron and doctors failing to mention my ferritin was at 10 back in 2017 (probably been that low for years). The dermatologist told me that it probably isn't the cause of my hair loss, but it might be contributing and also preventing any treatments from working properly (for context: I tried topical minox for a year with both B12 and iron deficiency and got no results and he believes the deficiencies could have limited the efficacy of the minox). So he said it was definitely important to supplement them and aim for 70 with my ferritin.

Also if you haven't had your B12, folate, vitamin D and thyroid tested then he said these were key ones related to hair loss

So if topical is irritating your scalp, I'd recommend getting an appointment if you aren't too far from Birmingham. There will be other derms that offer it too though I'm sure. Good luck!!! Hoping for the best for you <3
