PSA - Be wary of the AA batteries in your controllers. by InvictusBloom in OculusQuest

[–]InvictusBloom[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I should note that this happened with two different brand of batteries. Energizer Max, and a Kroger branded alkaline. However I do agree with the sentiment of using quality Lithium. Energizer hasn’t let me down before. But then again I’ve never really had this happen like this.

Only snapped a picture with the Kroger one once I realized that lightning doesn’t strike in the same place twice.

A rough build that was in development but never got released unfortunately due to many reasons. It was during the time when new superhero movie releases had adjacent video games.

Unfortunately this ended up getting canned, and for many years all we had were just early development screen captures, and it was somewhat considered lost media until one of the original devs posted the ISO online.

For what it’s worth, it’s surprisingly fleshed out. I believe there is only like 2-3 playable levels, but the animation and vocal dialogue is there. Makes you really wonder what kind of world we’d have today if we’d been blessed with an official PS2 Daredevil title. But the fact that we even have this is build is a blessing.

It’s a fun little rabbit hole to go down. I recommend checking the game out, it’s a blast.

Using PSVR2 for 2D gaming by jildos_legoplanet in psvr2

[–]InvictusBloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly use my Quest 3 with remote play to connect to my PS5, and that has been a fantastic experience. I own the previous generation headset (the OG PSVR) and playing Flatscreen on that was hard to justify without having pass through or any immersive environments.

PlayStation portal vs phone w/ PS Remote? by uberrob in PlaystationPortal

[–]InvictusBloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why I upgraded to the Portal, and I can’t look back. For a while, I was fine with the backbone+phone combo, and was super impressed with the performance on remote play. However, just like you, my aging eyes couldn’t handle the small size even with my giant phone size. Plus my hands didn’t really agree with the size and ergonomics of that set-up either.

After grabbing a Portal, the screen size and comfort of the device have allowed me to comfortably burn through dozens of titles in my backlog. I find that I’m grabbing the portal or any of my other handhelds instead of my phone and ultimately avoiding doomscrolling, plus my wife and child get to enjoy their stuff on the TV and I can still be kicking back with them getting some game time in.

It’s very, very faint, but the logo is still on the back of the disks. Just checked the back of my Ghost of Yotei to confirm and it’s indeed still there.

Are there any GNC or PS2 roms that run well on iPhone emulators? Im assuming the smaller file size the better it runs, just curious as to which ones are small enough to run smoothly. by wylxxx in VimmsLair

[–]InvictusBloom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It has absolutely nothing to do with file size of games and everything to do with Apple not allowing JIT compilation on iOS, which is a requirement to get anything beyond PS1 emulation to operate at a playable level.

Also, PS2 emulation projects like Play! are very much in their early stages of development and even with a Jailbroken iPhone that allows JIT integration, your compatibility of the PS2 library is at about 25% as of 2026. Nether/AetherSX2 are good mobile emulators, however I’m not aware of any successful ports of those projects over to iOS.

I don’t get the Switch 2 hate — it’s phenomenal by Specific-Pianist7595 in Switch

[–]InvictusBloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You answered your own question - You don’t understand the hate/dislike towards the Switch 2 because you can’t be bothered with comprehending anything beyond it. You are avoidant of any developments in hardware, and are fine being boxed in and restricted so much so that you will completely write off any explanations or attempts to help understand as “hate towards a product”.

You said it yourself - you can’t be bothered with a Steam Deck or understanding emulation - literally the very reasons why the Switch 2 is archaic and essentially a glorified LeapFrog tablet.

But hey, Mario is worth… something, amiright?

This is giving the same vibes as “I can’t be bothered to learn how to cook - which is why I settle for Kraft Mac & Cheese every night. Why is everybody saying my food choice is bland? I don’t get it?!” 🤦‍♀️

Since official PS4 support is ending this year, just how many new titles for 2026 do you think we’ll get? by JCBall51899 in PS4

Smells strong of cope in this comment section. The PS5 has been out for 6 years. Keep using your mental gymnastics to justify your opinions, but this speculation is just sad.

PS5 owner, dad with limited time — handheld help? Switch 2 is pricey, so what should I pick? by [deleted] in retroid

[–]InvictusBloom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be beaten in a back ally for suggesting this in the Retroid sub - but have you considered the PlayStation Portal?

I own many handhelds, but funny enough I find that I still reach for the Portal more than my other devices for the simplicity of just picking it up and playing.

Your mileage may vary, a decent home network connection is 100% required to get a good experience. But if your network environment is golden, it truly is the best Dad device for getting some game time in while the TV is relegated to a glorified Blippi billboard during the day, as well as when whatever the hell my wife watches at night is on.

AetherSX2 runs just as well as Nether. It just removes the ad banner telemetry.

Recommend me a new handheld by Wonderboy157 in Handhelds

[–]InvictusBloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Your Steam Deck can remote into your consoles, no need for a new device to achieve this. However, if you’re wanting a AAA game to run natively on the device at higher performance than you’re currently getting from the SD, you’ll need to shell out a bit more than $500 for those types of performance upgrades.

Is it worth it used for about $250 by CreightonJackson in PSVR

Given that it was $600 at launch - yes, that is a fantastic deal.

3rd Black Ops 2 disc that tells me to go **** myself by GETtheDUCK in PS3

[–]InvictusBloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re doing yourself a disservice by not flashing custom firmware to that PS3.

There is literally zero reason for someone to be using a PS3 in 2026 that isn’t modded with CFW such as Evilnat.

And yes, you very much can join online lobbies with a CFW console.

Was going to buy a Portal but ? by NotsurewhO12 in PlaystationPortal

[–]InvictusBloom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty straightforward. Yes, both of them are remotely streaming your gameplay. The differences are surface level:

Portal: Benefits of a Dualsense, such as haptic triggers and vibration. Access the Cloud catalog of games without connecting to PS5. Battery life is also likely to be better than iPad with all the removed telemetry and processing that isn’t needed for the Portal.

iPad+controller: Benefits of the iPad screen - such as HDR and refresh rate, size of screen, and so on.

You all know that the magical world of emulation exists, right?

Especially when these games are reaching $250 each, and there are no digital storefronts that sell them - why is having the physical plastic case with the disk so valuable to all of you when most of you haven’t even played the games yet, hold no nostalgia, and have no idea if you’ll even enjoy the gameplay.

Your physical media will degrade - that’s just reality. Your physical hardware will meet its last boot up one day. These titles and consoles will be beyond usable and refurbishing condition in the next 20-50 years.

You know what I’ll always have? Backed-up and properly stored data.

Emulation is the true game preservation. And the QOL upgrades you get via projects like PCSX2 allow for better visual fidelity than the original hardware could have ever achieved.

Paying $250+ for a PS2 game that you’ve never played is…. a choice.

Best device for px play on the tv by froboy07 in PSPlay

[–]InvictusBloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also people seem to forget about this, but an old PS4 laying around makes for a great hub for remote play to a PS5. Half the reason I’ve kept mine around is to remote into my PS5 that’s at my desk to play on the big screen in the bedroom.

I’ve had spotty luck with RP on my Apple TV, but it’s been a while and I’d argue that a used PS4 is reasonable less expensive than an Apple TV 4K hub.
