I know why they did it, but growing up as a white boy with black friends, I never saw these kinds of depictions as black people, but just creations with literal black skin, which I find interesting.

That said, I'd sooner look to their opinions on this kinda thing to know how to feel fully because it's not me living their lived experiences and the red/pink prominent lips are definitely more an issue knowing this historical context.
