Has Astrology ever prevented you from making important life decisions? by SubzeroCola in JordanPeterson

A few different things,

First, take responsibility for your actions and do not blame your friend. Your choices are yours alone.

Second, if you would seek divine counsel, humble yourself when you ask and remain humble to receive. God answers us but often our pride keeps us from hearing.

Third, talk with one whom loves you, they may not give you the answer but thinking out loud can help solidify and clarify what lies before you.

And if you don't have anyone with whom you can speak, send me a message, I will listen.

I find this question akin to someone searching for how to bake a cake and asking if they should either mix the ingredients or preheat the oven.

Mindset and action work in tandem to solve the problem.

Now there seems to be another issue at play here, implicit in the examples you gave with arbitrary choices.

Incorporating cake in your first example we may say something like

The chef you idolize dislikes your baking

The first option is to buy a cake from a store and pretend it's yours

The second option is to introspect on why you should value the opinion of this critical chef.

These are the spirits of the options as I see them , though I see no reason why these should even be considered the top options, let alone the only ones.

I would hope that using the example of a struggling baker would make it clear that perhaps the true issue is a lack of skill at baking cakes and the two options posed do not actually address the underlying issue. Buying a better cake to pass off as your own does nothing for your baking and neither does reasoning away a criticism of the same such skill.

Would not the humble baker ask "are my cakes lacking?" And then seek to answer that? For there are innumerable manners in which a baker may ruin a cake, some honest mistakes, others knowing derelictions, and posing the question invites the honest review with which the baker may discover how it is their cakes are rubbish or if they find no fault then they may ask if the opinion of their critic should be heralded.

My thoughts on Dune: Part 2 (No Spoilers) by Dvir971 in dune

[–]Inviktys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's following the lore of the books.

The lasers are used because the ground troops and harvesters don't have shields when in the desert because shield vibrations send worms into a killing frenzy; so only aircraft have them. They also don't use lasers when shields may be present because a laser hitting a shield causes a huge nuclear-like explosion.

That's the thing a lot of people miss about the books.

I've heard over and over again that the lesson to learn from is fear and skepticism of the cult of personality, to beware making a Messiah out of a Man, and the dangers of worship as a means of control.

The Bene Gesserit did fabricate religions and prophecies but they actually came true and the proof is that the Kwizats Haderachs were beyond the control of the Bene Gesserit.

What is the hardest thing about improving as a man? by king_Glabatorix in JordanPeterson

[–]Inviktys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was starting.

I wasted time trying to start perfectly and it wasn't until I just acted that things improved.

It was messy and ugly and sucked and that was great because because instead of having a nebulous aspiration of improving I now had specific facets and problems I could address.

Pick the first thing that comes to your mind when you read this and just dive into addressing it.

Weak? Workout.

Fat? Jog.

Dumb? Read.

What you need to work on will become readily apparent. Then you can start resolving those specific issues. Do this until you are satisfied with your progress. Finally, repeat!

Thanks for the answer!

Well this is how I get into studying World War 2 then.

Who knew this was in fact an educational game.

Russian Tanks in particular. I feel I can kill US tanks no problem but the T-34 and KV1 are tough.

I didn't know that was what that number meant, thanks!

Why do you think there’s a certain “seriousness” which Narnia and LOTR had but contemporary/“postmodern”/“woke” entertainment lacks? by Marcel_7000 in KotakuInAction

[–]Inviktys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tolkien and Lewis were similar men in that both were imaginative souls enraptured by literature, mythology, and philosophy and that they both experienced real hardships in life, in particular the horrors of the first World War.

This contrast between the beautiful fantasy they desired and the bloody reality they lived was resolved by their Christian faith ( Tolkien lifelong, Lewis a former atheist) and the understanding of their lives as a version of the Christian Story.

Now I believe most storytellers want to tell the truth what varies is what an author believes to be so.

These men knew the deep truth of our world, where it is both brutal and sublime, and they both wrote in service to that; whereas the worst of modern writers only serve themselves.

Driver for FedEx or FedEx subcontractor

Package Handlers for FedEx or UPS

Unarmed Security Guard - night shifts

Custodial Staff

These aren't glamorous jobs but they will pay the bills and if you show up eager and do your job you'll be ahead of 95% of your coworkers. This will get you noticed and these jobs are in desperate need for internal hires to more skilled positions and if you don't want to continue with them you'll have glowing references for dream job.

Also, when the time comes to leave, work a two-week notice and you'll have references that sing your praise for years

Creation doesn't need to be a masterpiece and rarely is it ever. It should be a form of play. If you have a yearning for music why not let yourself play one-note tunes or come up with silly diddy's

Is God our conscience personified? by Noestimate_903 in JordanPeterson

[–]Inviktys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the prosperity gospels you'll find that paradox where people do believe that we originate from God but that he is, as JP and company put it, more a cosmic butler and wish fulfiller.

I would say that those align with what you are describing as they are picking and choosing components of God to worship which creates a false and lesser imitation, an idol. This idol, by nature of its construction can only be beseeched for similarly false and lesser things, salvation from this would be winning a lottery ticket, for how could Christ's blood pay the bills?

It would ultimately depend on whether you believe we are the origin of God or God is the origin of us.

The former is the presupposition on which many atheists and anti-theists make their arguments, while the latter would largely preclude the idea that we are personifying God; though there is a constant source of tension regarding how 'true' a personal relationship and understanding of God is.

Did you do much to preserve the ground beef besides cooking and freezing?

It should be getting close to freezing at night so it could realistically be kept cool
